The writer, Zak Penn, is not one to provide oodles of confidence. X2 was at any rate better than X1, but then, so were a lot of films. And
The Last Action Hero and
Behind Enemy Lines were nothing very special, writing-wise.
I want to like Rob Bowman because he directed some of my favourite X-Files episodes ("Josie Chung's From Outer Space"), but
Reign of Fire definitely suffered from poor direction. He has NOT proven capable of putting together powerful action scenes, and maybe I'm biased but an Elektra movie ought to include awesome action scenes.
I'm also disappointed to hear they're "incorporating material from"
Elektra: Assassin. That is my all-time favourite comic book, and given the team currently assembled and the manner in which the Daredevil film was handled, I am suspicious of a "watered-down" version of the Miller/Sienkiewicz masterpiece's hard-core, uncompromising study of obsession and what it really takes to fight evil.
Plus, my wife and I want to do it as a movie. Dagnabit.
