elemental tactics (let hilarity ensue!)

questbreaker

First Post
hey all, im playing a lv5 druid with the elemental companion variant from the complete mage. i generally favor the earth one, i recently replaced it with the fire one so i could burn down a plague-ridden town to keep the plague from spreading. now i am planning to replace it with an earth one again because their earth glide is just sooo sweet.

my questions is, what interesting (and possibly hilarious) tactics could be used with the basic earth, fire, wind, or water elementals? i remember reading somewhere that earth elementals could attack a building's foundation from below ground with big bonuses to hit and damage, and that they ignore hardness for objects, (something about them being casually summoned to demolish things?) but i dont remember where i read these things and i was hoping maybe someone else had read them and knows where i can reference that so the DM can read it.

thanks in advance for any help you provide!

I think you may be remembering a recent thread about bridge-demolishing, in which several people bemoaned the Earth Elemental's complete lack of any such special abilities regarding attacking natural stone/earth objects. A number of house-rule fixes were proposed, including the one about ignoring hardness, but by the rules as written the earth elemental has no such capabilities. It can't even see where it's going while earth-gliding.

Personally, I'd go with an Air Elemental almost every time, simply because its Whirlwind form is astonishingly good at dealing with large numbers of opponents - and, of course, because it can fly, which makes it a good deal more versatile.

If you can get a large enough air elemental, train it to capture foes, fly upwards and drop. (some PC's of mine will find it funny watching the victims bounce).

Water elementals should try and drown as often as possible. Mind you I've often thought about having a water elemental being able to engulf a victim and drown them.
