Elements of MAgic Question

ANother question

What was the thinking behind the Evoke (element) spells?

If a 9th level mage casts Evoke Air 5 at one target he/she can choose two options.

1) A ray which will do 9d6 +9 or 40.5 points of damage on average.

or

2) Cast 5 missiles which will do a total of 5d6 +45 or 65.5 points of damage.

Why would anyone choose the ray?

BTW, I love this book. I made a NPC 3rd mage for my last session and he was way fun!

Trentonjoe, they might choose the ray so they only have to make one attack roll, instead of five. Each missile has its own attack roll and saving throw. The missiles can attack multiple targets, but the ray would often be better against a single target.

Spell Focus could be used with a school, or with a creature or element. The later option is pretty underpowered in comparison, though. I'm not entirely sure what to do with it.

I would think that you could have Spell Focus focus on a single element instead of a school since this magic system is focused on elements and not the schools, and from my understanding the school information is present just in case some people were wondering about it, but schools are not important using elements of magic.

Or add another feat that specialized in a single Spell List, or a couple of spell lists that a mage might cast most out of, which would make them even more specialized in some aspects.

I don't know if this all makes sense. I am rambling so I shall go for now.
