So, that it is a one hundred percent guaranteed fact that Elminster is the greatest mage D&D ever produced....

You don't suppose there are professional Elminster impersonators, do you?

I hear it makes good gold.

Absolutely untrue.

Elminster is the biggest Mary Sue D&D ever produced, but he is neither the "greatest mage D&D ever produced" nor even a very interesting character.

Vecna? Better mage, more interesting.
Mordenkainen? Better mage, more interesting.
Otiluke? Bigby? Otto? Rary? Better mages, more interesting.

That said, if there are Elminster impersonators, I hope the various clones of Manshoon kill them all in a tragic case of mass mistaken identity.

Raistlins' a hack and a God Mode Mary Sue worse than any mae every produced, and was not a D&D mage to begin with.

Elminster's taken a goddess as his lover. ...off-color comment removed...

Where in any of the novels was Rasitlin and indeed Dragonlance acknowledge to be inspired by Dungeons And Dragons? Until there is an actual acknowledgment from the authors, the only person who can say with any certainty that Dragonlance and Raistlin were inspired by D&D are the authors.

And Raistlin is the dullest of the dull. He can talk a stone to sleep.

They wrote the first DL modules and the Chronicles at the same time. They were set to be released at the same time too, but printing delayed the other (I don't remember which way it was). The characters and most of the world came from Jeff Grubbs campaign.

I remember reading somewhere that the modules were written first, and Raistlin got his raspy voice and cough because his player rolled a crappy con and that was his way of role playing it. Because that's the way he was in playtesting, it carried over into the novels.
