Elmore cover art for final issue of Dragon

Elmore's got *massive* talent. His attention to detail is outstanding. But I personally have never been able to get on with the static nature of his images... they look carved out of stone. On the other hand this is pure Elmore and deserves its place on the final cover.

It's ending... it's really ending... I didn't want to acknowledge it, but when Elmore's on the cover, it's not just Dragon, it's "Dragon, the magazine I read a whole damn lot when I was playing tons of D&D in my teen years"...

Couldn't have said it better.

Wayne Reynolds for Dungeon presents the 'Extreme Action' side of D&D. And Larry Elmore for Dragon presents the 'Timeless Fantasy' side. With only a hint of sexism. ;)

It's a good image, for all sorts of reasons. Though Elmore's poses usually are quite static, this is a wistful look to a realm one is leaving behind, like the mage and the dragon are pausing to take in one last look of that which they love.

Agreed. It's fitting for the last issue. I just got the penultimate issue today and loved the Order of the Stick tribute!

That's absolutely beautiful. I like the Native American/Aztec type of feel to her, yet there's something more exotic too. Gypsey maybe? Love the shade of green of the dragon.

Bravo!

Larry's a really cool guy. Our booth here at ComicCon this year is right next to his. We had drinks and cigars last night at the hotel bar. :)

I'm glad I was able to contribute to the final issue if it's going to look as cool as that.

Cheers,
Cam

I know I'm in the minority here but I can't stand Elmore's art.

Me neither. It always looks like fantasy painted by a Mills & Boon cover artist to me. Mind, a lot of US fantasy cover art looks similar. Differing tastes, I guess.
