Elves and Rings of Sustenance

I am just aspiring to become like the great rules jedi of this board. That is all.

Heh. I'm working on my gaming mentat status.

It is by will alone I set the game in motion.
It is by the words of rules that thoughts acquire speed,
the hands acquire dice.
The dice become a warning.
It is by will alone I set the game in motion.

I would think you at least should have the 2 hour benefit. . . you won't get anything extra special but I see no reason to not let them replace 2 hours of sleep with 2 hours of trance. . .

Yeah, I still think that there should be some benefit to the elven race, but since kreynolds is one of my DMs I tend to agree with him a lot. I saves a lot of headaches.

Oh, just go buy or find a "Crystal of Medetative Focus". Only usable by elves that allows you to preform your nightly meditations within an hour, or 46 seconds, or whatever you can talk your DM into. It is a world of magic out there, and people get too locked in to what you can find in the books. Maybe it is manufactured using essence of creatures that never sleep. or Mind Flayer Blood. Perhaps the creator needs to know the haste spell.

Yes, I know this is not really in line with the question of the post. Sometimes if you stop looking so hard at a problem, or one part of it, there are other solutions.

Hmm...I dunno. I'll try it on with the DM, but I think he's going by the core books at the moment.

Elf=no sleep
Ring of sustenance=no food/drink and 2 hours of sleep that equals 8 hours of sleep
trance=benefits of 8 hours of sleep

Elves don't benefit from the sleeping part of rings of sustenance since you need to sleep to gain the benefits.

Elves still benefit from the not needing to eat and drink part though. =o)

Yeah, I see what you are saying.

But, don't wouldn't you think that it would get a little too pricey compared to the ability in question to have somehting else magical to assist in this department.

Or, is the simple trade off for elves not sleeping thier trance ability? What I mean is that humans have to have 8 hours of sleep/rest, and elves only need four hours of trance. Well, the ring gives the humans all its benefits, and the elf gets half the benefits because he/she already has a nifty racial ability. Is that the trade off? Does that make it fair/balance?
