Emailing Me

TOO MUCH SPAM.

I've installed a subject line password on my email. If anyone needs to email me you must include either "Dusk" or the password "srsitu" in the subject, otherwise my server will delete it.

I've been getting close to 70 spams a day. I'm sick of it.

you and me both. my spamblocker filled up after the first week of use. 500 addresses in 1 week.

I had the same thing, but a few weeks ago I installed something called "Spambayes" and have not had any problems since. I recommend it (Google should find it). It "learns" what you consider spam and what you consider genuine, and is getting it right pretty much 100% of the time for me (ocasionally an item of spam gets through, but I tell it it's spam, and it learns a little more).

Does it work with IMAP servers though?

Wouldn't know. I don't even know what as IMAP server is. Your best bet is to google it and see what info you can find about it - I imagine you'll find more in 5 minutes than I could ever tell you.

I know I'm going to jinx myself, but I have been using a yahoo address for about 5 years, and I average maybe 5 or 6 spam emails a day. Yahoo directs a lot of those into a "bulk" folder, which they no longer count against your limit for your mailbox.

Frankly, I don't understand it. I have used the email address at several commercial websites, including Amazon, RPGnow, and others. I've also used it to register at multiple messageboards, including this one.

Am I just lucky?

Actually, those are the places to use them. I've found that addresses used when I register for forums or shop at places like Amazon are fairly safe, because the addresses aren't listed on a public page. I don't get spam from those. If you ever have an email address listed visibly on a website, like within a forum post or such, it will get spammed. The address I have listed for domain names I've registered gets spammed regularly.My wife registered at Entertainment Weekly and within days was getting about 20 spams every day.

Sometimes it's a shot in the dark, though. You just never know. Sounds like you got off easy!
