Emiliana Torrini

Yes, I could totally "amazon" this and find out more, but that's not quite as fun as a discussion.

I'm listening to the LotR: Two Towers which I just got, and the last track has "Gollum's Song" which is sung by this hauntingly beautiful voice.

She's somewhere between Enya, Venus Hum, Loreena Mckennit(sp) and maybe a little Cyndi Lauper thrown in for good measure.

Very nice. Anyone know anything about her?

I was thinking her voice just sounded like Bjork, myself. I believe reading at some point that she was half Icelandic (and half Italian) too at one point, but I could be mistaken there.

That particular song really grew on me; when I first got the soundtrack (before seeing the movie) I hated it, but it's now an integral part of the soundtrack to me.

What's silly is that, this past Christmas, when I was in a sad mood from being unemployed, I'd stay up 'til 5 in the morning and end the evening playing this song to revel in being sad. Not the healthiest activity, possibly, but eventually I realized how silly I was being, and the habit became more amusing than depressing.

Same here. It's so well done.

I own Torrini's Love in the Time of Science. It's pretty good. IMO, something of a cross between Kate Bush and Beth Gibbons in both voice and sound. She's of Icelandic descent if that possibly means anything in reference to a similar voice as Björk.
