Was Marc Anthony the guy who was giving the speech towards the end of the episode in the street?
Yep -- gray-eyed and red-clothed army general, who was interrupted by Julius' sister -- mother of Octavius. I didn't catch her name -- Atia maybe? She was Julius' niece and the real mother of Octavius.

It was bland and a tad on the boring side. More fights please! The story was cliche, and seemed like a retread of Gladiator but nowhere near as cool. A fairly good cast (particularly Marc Antony, Cicero and Julius Caesar) but the young Octavius was stupid and annoying. Not being much up on Roman history, I did not notice the historical inaccuracies, but now that I'm aware of them, I like the show even less. It's useless as education and mediocre as entertainment. Ho-hum. It feels a bit like work sitting through Empire... :\

I was reading George R.R. Martin's "The Sworn Sword" (sequel to "The Hedge Knight", and prequels to A Song of Ice And Fire). during the commercial breaks and found that novella much more interesting than the miniseries.

Tell me more about the HBO Rome show. When does it debut? And when the hell do we get another season of The Sopranos? 2006?

I thought it was pretty awful myself. Cicero must be rolling in his grave.

Hopefully the HBO show will turn out better.

I noticed they had problems with historical accuracy,
Actually, according to the reviews and interviews I read in my local paper, this is a feature and not a bug.

It's intentional (especially when they introduce the whole gladiator thing...). Don't know (nor care) how it will work out, though.

Well, I was busy last night and missed episode III. Any news? How was it?

Over all I liked it. They are building up the inevitable conflict between the army and the senate and Dennis Haysbert is always a welcome suprise. There was more of the 'Tyrannus has a rep for butt thwomping' stuff going on, along with a pretty sad revelation about him. And some interesting turns regarding Brutus. Production values were still decent and it set up next week's episode wll at the end.
