EN Milestones

I fondly recall, after months and months of visiting 3ed News six or seven times a day, printing out the AoO examples to keep nearby during our first ever session of 3rd Edition. It seems fitting, in retrospect. Plus, Attacks of Opportunity scared the crap out of me back then. :)

The impact of Eric's site on my gaming and, later, the influence of everyone who built upon his foundation to turn ENW into what it is today, is immeasurable. It's as simple as that.

Found Eric's place in 1999. Joined the forums soon after. Had times when my depression kept me away, but overall I've done what I can to add to this collection of characters in its many incarnations.

Eric was the first, that made a big difference. He was also enthusiastic and focused, that helped. And he was open, that made all the difference. So long as you minded your manners you were welcome. You could post disagreements, present controversial subjects, and other such thing, and get a hearing. When people got snarky, the mods and admins got on it without getting snarky themselves. A lot like this site today.

Eric established a tradition that brought people in and helped form a community where the members could get a fair hearing and insightful feedback.

In a sense he shaped D&D more than some people who've worked on it. Made it more popular than it might have been. Made it more engrossing, more open.

So, Eric, take this post and a couple of bucks down to your neighborhood 7/11 and you'll be able to get a cup of cofee. :)

I have a whole lot of thanks due to Eric. Like my career, for instance.

Back in the day I had a site over at GeoCities (blargh!!!), and Eric invited me to be hosted at his site. In a month I had more hits than the whole year I spent at GeoCities (blargh!!!). Within a month I was contacted by Fiery Dragon to do counters for Nature's Fury and the rest, as they say, is Knowledge (history).

When Eric sent out the e-mail with his decision to shut down the site, Morrus really stepped up to the plate and invited all of Eric's hosted sites to move over to EN World. That single decision ensured the immortality of this community, because the transfer was so seamless.

So a big THANK YOU to both Eric and Russell, two fine gentlemen I had the honor of meeting in person.

I raise my glass to you, gentlemen!

I was with Eric Noah in the beginning and a member of the old DND-L discussion group. The reason I came to ENWorld was because of the closing of Eric's site . . . I still remember the announcement!

A hearty CONGRATS to you Eric, and to all those who keep this site going!

You all have taken part in building the best gaming site on the net with a great reputation and a tremendous community. You've done a hell of a good job!

Now enough of these warm & fuzzy feelings ... get back to work! :p

I can quite honestly say that these forums are the best I've been on for D&D (that's including the WOTC one, too!). I think we all owe a debt to you and Morris for the work you've done. :)

I've been "here" since pretty early in Eric's site. I've never been a hugely efflusive poster ... usually I have a few days to a week where I post 2-3 times a day, then nothing for weeks on end, then one or two posts here and there. But I like to lurk.

3E and this site really changed my gaming lifestyle. During the earlier editions, I was interested in RPGs, played occassionally, but it was never much of a fraction of my recreation. Now it's probably my most major past-time, beating out video games and movies and all the rest. ('Course it helps that I'm a poor graduate student and RPGs are also CHEAPER per hour, by far, than the others.)

After Wizards first announced 3rd edition, I discovered Eric's website, and checked it daily with bated breath for new 'scoops.' Although I've mostly lurked since them, it's still one of my favorite places on the net, and by far the most friendly, polite, and insightful RPG messageboardI've seen.

Oh, because it needs to be said: Skuuuurge!

I'm a newcomer, but a big thanks to all those mentioned already.

In addition, a special thanks to Eric's Grandma, whose influence helps keep this place clean. :)
