Another suggestion:

Start it as a hamlet, then when you have enough material, grow it into a village, then a town, then a large town, then a city. Let the map grow with the detail. This way you won't have large amounts of map with no description behind it, and it'll be fully usable right off the bat.

But...that's not likely to be as popular as the idea of creating a city from the start to the average ENBoard punter, so carry on. :)

P.S.: Looking at the list of names, I'll still be casting an unofficial vote for don't name the darn thing, at all, leave it to the user. That makes discussion of the city hard, though, so a generic "placeholder" name like The Port might be in order. Remember The Realm from The Keep on the Borderlands? Something like that...

A train of twenty wagons surrounded by cavalry escort rattle across the stony virgin land. Desolate and despondent undesirables with all their remaining worldly possessions huddle against the cold in the tattered wagons as their broken and worn animals struggle to haul their loads.

The King's Priest and the captain of the escort ride ahead a bit, surveying the land. The Priest nods and the captain thrusts a spear-tipped flag into the rocky ground and utters a single word.

"Here."

With that, the priest and the cavalry ride back to the capital, leaving the frightened and shivering pioneers to fend for themselves.

I think that the project is going to need some focus if it is going to get off of the ground. It might be a good idea to concentrate on fleshing out the city first, before moving beyond its walls. Maybe there can be a system in place where people who handle a project that contributes to the city itself can then be given a section outside the city to develop. :)

That sounds good. Some land outside the city's walls can be assigned to the Spring Circus. The circus acts as a good place to keep the dangerous creatures near the city, training the creatures to perform tricks, and be handled with care. Plus some of the money made by the circus is shared with the city. :)

Hmmm... working on this city sounds fun!

Well we'll have the name but DMs are free to change it. After all, it's their campaign. As for the importance of the environs, I agree. We'll concentrate on the city but it's good to know what's around.

Hmm...Sixchan's School of Music...I kinda like the sound of that. Then I can go to my old Music Teacher and laugh in his face! :D
Maybe I could have a whole district named after me...Sixia...
Don't push your luck. :p :D

I was thinking of something along those lines, yes.
Like Chauzu's House of Terrors but the Circus might be better.

BUt... where's grandma?? ;)

And giving it a name will be sure to remind them that it's not really part of their setting, when they're seeing "Entropia" or whatever written everywhere and having to ignore it because they're using it with their own name. Sorry, just one of my pet peeves about so-called "generic" plug-into-your-campaign-setting products...too much high level design. :)

The world is already there - it's your job to fit into it, not conflict with it. That just means rewriting for the DM.

I think we need another poll between Entropia, ENtropia, Entropy, and ENtropy. The difference between -y and -ia, I think, is mostly due to location on the list -- they're within a vote or two at the moment.
