I have an article published in "Knights of the Dinner Table" about a player's reward system for DM's.

I have a submission for Dungeon that Chris Thomasson expressed interest in. I am awaiting his final decision. It's one of those "Critical Threats".
Which issue is that ?

Well, this is really nothing, but I was one of the people who Johnn Four thanked for their help in the intro to his new e-book NPC Essentials. :o

I am the primary writter on Kenzer's Villain Design Handbook (which should be appearing in stores any day now), I have a credit in the Kalamar Player's Guide and I have other works in progress.

As a side note Necromancer Games had picked up one of my adventures for their Treasure Maps and Lairs book but they later decided to drop it :(

There sure is a long story about that. A long time ago in one of my gaming groups their was a character who was particularly tough. So tough in fact that it was said that he could like an orc and live. The nickname stuck and I've adopted it as a handle. Ofcourse no one is quite sure what part of lick ing the orc the character would have survived the actual licking or the inevitable pummeling that would occur.

You could always take the dark path and get a job as an editor.

Bennies, plenty of chances to write for the pubs you manage, and credentials with which to crack open the market on your freelance career.

Chromnos,

Really?? This works??? WOW, I wonder whose hiring out there!?!? :P If this is the way things work, then I've been going about it the wrong way, suren! LOL! :D

Me:

Books I wrote meself:

Stormhaven- City of a Thousand Seas (Mongoose)

Quintessential Monk- (Mongoose)

Stonebridge- City of Illusion (Mongoose): not sure when/if it's coming out

Magazines:
Dragon 289- Playful Phoenix Fist vs 4 Scholar's Boxing

Dragon ?: something something- Warriors of the Animal Fist (a monk PrC that has 7 different animal style progressions to choose from. A real bitch to write, so I hope it sees the light of day soon)

Dragon ?: something Musicians- 4 PrCs for bards (apparently it's coming out in some special issue Dragon will be publishing)

Working on:
This Prestige Class Goes Up to 11- waiting for acceptance (this one's in the bag baby ;)) on this April Dragon article

Strange Tides of the Far Realms- for Dragon

Eternal Opposites- for Dragon

Hopeful/Probable:

AEG d20- seems like I'll be contributing to an d20 AEG book soon. Seems like a neat one, so I hope they like my stuff.

Warlord- looks like I'll be doing something fiction wise for the Warlord CCG in the near future (knock on wood). Should be cool, as I've had a yen for doing some fiction stuff.

Just note that I am buying that issue of Dragon just to see this. I won't care if the rest of the magazine is garbage, just so long as this is a good as it sounds. Just tell me one thing: Is one of the prerequites killing a drummer?

:D

Not yet, but by god, I'm gonna write Jessie (Decker) and have him put it in there.

Yeah, I had fun with this article. Since SO many gamers are/were hopeless lunkhead metal-leather rockers, the image of a Bard as 80's rocker just seemed like a natural fit.

And, yes, I do include myself as a (mostly) reformed metal-leather lunkhead. :)

PS: Just for fun some time, challenge your players with a 4 man evil adventuring party of Drow multi-class Bard/Barbarians. Make 'em all look like Metallica circa 1992 (photo-negative James Hetfield = scary). During the adventure, put on a tape with a loop of "For whom the bell tolls" and Drowning Pool's "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor".

It's so natural a combination that it's almost scary.

It's all about money...

...but I think we can all agree on the fact that writing RPG material is not about a lot of money, at least not for the individual writer.

So if anyone is contemplating a career as a rpg writer as their primary get rich quick scheme, I would advise against it. :-)

I would also recommend reading, reading, reading. Keep up to date with what's out there, what's on the horizon, what other people are doing, what people are thinking about it, and so on.

And also, don't use other rpg's as your primary source, not for facts, not for legends, not for anything... ok, maybe for the rules... :-). It might sound stupid to say this, but many, many roleplayers base a lot of their "knowledge" about stuff (like combat) on what they know from other rpgs.

Read books. Watch documentaries. Use multiple, independent sources when doing research. Go to the library. Subscribe to magazines that are not rpg-mags (hmm, I should do that myself, actually...).

Also, be aware of the risk that when you work with your hobby, it might become just work, and you might lose your hobby.

Otherwise, just do it.

M.
