Encouraging PC depth and group cohesion

I have found in the past the games I have enjoyed the most as a player came from two different directions. BOTH had a story to them, so they had that in common....

the diferences from there were quite striking...

one was very structured campaign with goals that were well defined early in the game (within 6 sessons or less) but with the players initialy taking a minor part in the conflict, but as the characters advanced in power and notoriety, they were given hightened responsibilities.... and prestige/power.

The other was enjoyable more for the colour provided by the GM. structure was not so much his strong suit, but everything in the world had color and flare. and he encouraged players to describe their actions with equal flare...

In the end, its not all about the power of the game stats, the Story is where the game lies...
