Encylopedia of Angels... should I?

Okay, I'm extremely torn right now. I love angels and faeries and the like (Faeries was a great book!), but I've had such bad luck with FFE products... I'd hate to fork over the dough and then be disappointed again. I don't have a FLGS, and the other stores around me don't carry FFE books (though I did see a single copy of Dungeon World once at Borders, which was weird), so I can't just flip through it.

If anyone has this book, can you tell me if the art is good, and the game mechanics correct? If it were Bastion or FFG or Mongoose, I wouldn't hesitate, but... Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks
Chris

Fast Forward Games? The same folks who did Encyclopedia of Demons and Devils? I wouldn't buy a newspaper from the folks.

It's kind of a pity, because Fantasy Flight Games makes some good stuff, but because of the other FFG I automatically shy away from them.

Anyway, based on their track record (not just the Encyclopedia of Demons and Devils; look at their reviews on the review page) I would assume it is no good unless you hear rave reviews about it.

Technically, it's Fast Forward Entertainment (FFE). Whatever you do, don't confuse them with Fantasy Flight Games (FFG)... HUGE difference!

Yes please don't. For one Will Upchurch, Greg Benage and the rest of the FFG guys are some of the best guys out there. FFE guys...well like my mom always says, if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all.

If you had an FLGS where you could skim the book, I'd recommend that. But sight unseen, no way. And I'm not just aiming that at FFE, I wouldn't buy any $20+ book without being able to check it out first. A good web preview goes a long way, though; Midnight's sold me on it. Check out FFE's site and see if they have some material posted. Otherwise, save your money until you see some rave reviews.

Stay far away from FFE. Their stuff is just drek.

If you want a book with lots of well designed celestials, pick up the Avatar's Handbook instead. You'll be glad you did.

Buy Gustav Davidson's "A Dictionary of Angels (Including the Fallen Angels)" at your local bookstore and make up the statistics. Chances are good it'll be about the same amount of work, and the ideas will be better.

You know, I looked at the thread title and thought the Gustav Davidson book was what this thread was about. Silly me.

(And for what it's worth, I second the recommendation of the Dictionary of Angels for anyone who is interested in angels and doesn't already own a copy. Great stuff.)

Though Davidson's book is frustrating in its own way....

(I used it as a source for Malhavoc Press' Anger of Angels.)
