Energy Substitution and The Sorceror

First Post
Basically, as I undesratnd it, a sorceror using the Energy Substitution feat would cast his spell as a fullround action. My questions are two:

1) Am I correct in this assumption of a full round of casting for AcidBall?

2) If I'm right, how unbalancing would it be to allow the use of the feat as a normal casting of the spell (standard action)?

Thanx

If you've got an Energy based Sorcerer, definitely look at the Elemental Savant PrC in Complete Arcane. With that, every spell you cast automatically changes to your chosen element, not requiring the extra casting time at all.

This is not for me. One of my players is going for a Trollkiller "feel". He took this feat at level 9 and is going for the admixture the next feat he gets. He already took Incantatrix as a PrC, I don't think he's looking for more.....yet ;)

You could also take a look at the Unearthed Arcana variant for spontaneous metamagic, but I consider it not so well thought-out as it is much more benefit for wizards than for sorcerers and the more effective metamagic feats (high level modifier) get more benefit than the less effective ones (low level modifier) IMHO.

2) Not much, but it would be against the general idea of the Sorcerer's Metamagic.

You're a DM (I think ;) ) but you also play a couple of sorcerors IIRC. What would you prefer?

I think that spontaneously-cast metamagic would be fine without the casting time increase, personally; but I haven't playtested it just yet.

For most energy spells, I let the player choose what energy they are when they get them. Fortunately, non of 'em are min-maxxers. I'd let a sorceror use it "free."

I always tend to see the Sorceror a bit underpowered compared to the wizard. Sure you can cast alot more spells and as a standard action, but wizards just got BOOKS of spells, instead of just a few...
AND the wizard gets feats as he gains levels which the sorcerer does not.
To be honest the spell requirering a standard action or a fullround action doesn't change much. It wouldn't ruin any game making the sorcerer cast spell with meta magic feat on as a standard action. The only thing is does make, is try to keep the balance up, just a bit...

Ah. If only there were some way for a Trollkiller sorcerer to deal fire or acid damage with a fireball without a feat!

... oh, wait...
