Enervation on a wep. Enchantment level?

Izod

First Post
I'm thinking about making a wepon with the enervation spell on it as per the spell in the PHB. Now my question is what level of enchantment is this? I would think it would be something like +4 at least but more likely +6. Thoughts?

Soul Drinker from the DMG is the closest thing I've seen. Unless it is a major ability of an intelligent weapon that has limited use or only effects certain creatures as a special purpose then it's probably going to be up on the epic spectrum. Even though it only does temporary negative levels, you can still kill the average creature with two or three hits (3-12 HD). It also allows you to have a contingent of energy draining undead follow you around. How exactly are you planning for this weapon to work? Maybe if you specify what the criteria on how you're incorporating this ability into a weapon it might make it a little easier to flesh out.

well the char I was thinking about making it for is a haffling/half fiend sor level 20. I didn't really want any other enchantments other than the +3 or so for the wep. Also I wouldn't mind if it only droped you one level per hit or some thing like that... over all I don't want the wep to be more than like +8 or +9 at the most.

Have not seen the Soul Drinker, so pardon any duplication.

Spirit Cutter

Upon hit, opponent must make a save at a DC 15-17, (depends on how mean you want to be.), or take one tempoary negative level. This negative level dissapears in 1 day, (or hour, if you want to squeeze out a lower enhancement modifier).

Caster level, 12th.

Bonus, +5

Just pulling numbers out of thin air. It would be powerful, especially with multiple attacks, but no worse than vorpal. Maybe on a crit, the DC goes to 20-25, or the drain becomes permanent.

As written, I'd rate that at a +4 at the most. But I like it. :)
