Enlarge and Shillelagh

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but there's nothing to prohibit this combo:

Druid (& his equipment) gets enlarged by party Wizard or Cleric with Strength domain. Druid is now Large and is armed with a Large club (or quarterstaff if you prefer) which now deals d8 damage (+ strength bonus). Druid then casts Shillelagh, so his weapon now does 3d6 +1 damage (+ strength bonus).

It's not overpowering & is only really useful @ low levels as there are probably better combos at higher levels. But it seems like it'd be good tactic for a low level party.

What do you think?

Yup, nice combo. If you can convince the arcane caster in the group to cast it on you. Then again there's a nice 2nd lvl combo with a Battle Sorcerer 1/Druid 1 heh.

I have a spontaneous casting druid/ranger who uses just this tactic. He casts shillelagh on his quaterstaff along with spikes and has the sorcerer use bull's strength and enlarge.

It is quite effective for a low level strategy. (He also is a fan of using smoke sticks and fire eyes together).

Be glad that Shillelagh is not a domain spell (AFAIK) or you'll have clerics with that combo. The only problem of the combo: It does not help the druid to hit something.

Btw: Quarterstaffs usually are twohanded weapons for 1.5 times strength mod damage.

.... and lowers the druid's AC by 2 points. Easy prey! :)

If an intelligent opponent witnesses the process of the casting or the effect of the Enlarge Person itself she may try to disarm or stun (to disarm) the enlarged druid - now with an AC 2 points worse than normal.

Kind regards (and thanx for the suggestion - I might give it a try) :)

I have seen this in effect and it is a hell good, now let me ask one thing, do you consider greatclubs to be included in the club aspect of the spell?

I think in general 2 effects that increase size don't stack. However Shillelagh does not increase size of the weapon, it just lets the weapon do damage as a larger weapon, but the size is unchanged. Therefore I think it's a valid combo :)

It is a fine combo (a cohort of one of my PCs uses it). Certainly not overpowering, it just means that for one (or possibly two) combats a day the character can do damage on a par with the fighter who has a 2H sword.

The ideal is if it can be combined with the combat reflexes feat of course, to get lots of high-damage AoO. And with expertise + improved trip (drools)

:)
