(ENN) Cam Banks launches new studio and licenses Cortex from Margaret Weis Porductions

Cam Banks, an award-winning writer, designer and developer, has launched a new design studio called Magic Vacuum and has signed an agreement to license the Cortex Plus and Cortex Classic rules systems from Margaret Weis Productions. Magic Vacuum are taking over the design, development and publishing of games based on the rules and spearhead the development and crowdfunding of new core rulebooks for 2017 and beyond.

Cam is certainly no stranger to the Cortex system, having helmed the production, design and development of a number of MWP Cortex games over the years including Smallville, Leverage and Marvel Heroic Roleplay.

The announcement coincides with Margaret's retirement from RPG development to focus on her current novel and film projects.. Banks is taking up the reins to develop and ensure Cortex Plus fans receive the foundational rulebooks for the Cortex Plus Creator Studio as well as new RPGs based on the system.

Margaret Weis stated, "I couldn't be more pleased to entrust Cortex to Cam. I have every confidence fans expectations will not only be met, but exceeded by his new design studio Magic Vacuum."

"I'm proud to take on the role of publisher fr the Cortex Plus system going forward,"[/hq said Cam Banks. "I spent the formative period of my game design career working for Margaret, and nobody knows Cortex Plus like I do. I know I can deliver the kind of worlds, stories, and cor rules the fans have been asking for since we first published Cortex Plus games at MWP."

Ah, that explains a lot - I'd been wondering what was happening with MWP.

Congrats to Cam. I hope to see great things from Magic Vacuum.

In case you're wondering, "Magic Vacuum" comes from one of the many drug stories people have told my wife, who is apparently the one person in all of her circles of friends that stoners like to tell their stories to. Anyway, this dude was sitting in the back of a car, high as a kite, having a three-way conversation among himself, Seth, and the Magic Vacuum. Seth and the Magic Vacuum were hand puppets. It was apparently very intense.

Anyway. Magic Vacuum Design Studio: Our Games Don't Suck.

Cheers,
Cam

I'm a fan of a lot of your work Cam so this sounds like good news.

This however:

Magic Vacuum Design Studio: Our Games Don't Suck

Sounds more like a tagline for "Broken Vacuum" than "Magic Vacuum"!

Good luck on the new venture!
