ENnie Judge Q&A

Macbeth

First Post
Hello, ENworlder's! I'm Macbeth, and this is an all purpose thread to ask those people running for Ennie Judges any questions you'd like to ask.

You can find my ENnie judge announcement here (its post#10).

Fire away...

What are your thoughts about "That Guy" from Privateer Press?

Seriously:
what genre of games do you like to play?
Do you play systems other than D&D/d20?
What are your 5 favorite books?
Do you feel that you have a bias for or against any companies and/or writers?

Glad to see a response...

Lets see, I think I'll answer your questions in order:

1.
what genre of games do you like to play?
Thats a tough one, since I don't know that I favor any particular genre. If anything, I tend to lean towards whatever genre has my eye at the moment, which, at this point, would probably be Oriental style games. However, I tend to fall for any genre that i've been reading about.

2.
Do you play systems other than D&D/d20?
I play GURPS semi-regularly, and have been known to play White Wolf every once in a while. I've also messed around with In Nomine. Mostly I stick to d20 right now, since the GURPS game I play in has temporarily been replaced with Call of Cthulhu (d20 version)

3.
What are your 5 favorite books?
Okay, just to make this more interesting, I'm going to exclude the PHB, DMG and MM which give us:
Arcana Unearthed
Spycraft
Mutants and Masterminds
Complete Warrior
Skull and Bones

I just realized I assumed you ment d20 books, if you were going for literature, here's my top 5:
Crime and Punishment
The Stranger
Ender's Game
The Truth (by Terry Pratchett)
Hamlet

4.[qoute]Do you feel that you have a bias for or against any companies and/or writers?[/quote]
Hmmmmm... Excellent question. I don't think I have any biases, or at least any biases that I'm aware of. To be honest, as far as writer bias, half of the time I don't buy a book because of it's author, I buy it because of reviews and subject matter, I only notice who wrote it later. I do like some of Monte Cook's recent stuff, but it's not that I like Monte unconditionally, I just think he did a good job. The only writer that I can think of that I've had any interaction with (and even this was fairly little, just some message board stuff) was Ed Cha, and I was impressed with Hamlet of Thumble, but, again, I like the book, not the writer.
As for companies, I'm fairly sure I don't have a bias. I've yet to see a company that could 'do no wrong,' so I look at books one at a time, not purely on the publisher's history.

No offense intended, Macbeth, but if every potential Ennies judge did this, we'd get swamped. And the boards really must be able to give us all equal time...

Perhaps, rather than the separate "Vote for me" and "Vote for X" threads we've seen, the mods will see fit to start an Ennies Judge Q&A thread - where we can pimp or be pimped in a somewhat enclosed environment? People could pose a question for all the potentials to answer, rather than need to go about one at a time...

Sounds like a good idea. The only reason I went for my own thread was because nobody else had started one....
Shall I change this to "Ennie Judge Q&A"?
