I'm just in awe that something I helped write (Bluffside) is in the same category listed with Ed Greenwood.

*walks away drunk with amazement*

Don't be too much Klugie, you and Hal did a great job! :)

re: Occult Lore - I inhaled this book when it showed up. I was struck by how innovative many of the ideas were.

Yup. Just ask the other judges about how for a few days there I said things like "I'll look at [insert product] after I finish occult lore."

To be fair, I don't think that everything in there is for everybody. But the book did seem quite a bit more modular than many such books, and the rules execution seemed pretty solid.

So you think we got another "Touched by the Gods" type of thing here Psion/Alan?

What do you mean? I rather liked it better than TbtG. TbtG had a lot of neat ideas, but the rules implementations (and in some cases, ommissions) left me shaking my head in many places.

Backdrops vs. Dungeon/Polyhedron

What a thrill, really. I've got to agree with the earlier sentiment about the value of the nominations. They're an honor and a delight. What wonderful company to be kept with.

Congrats to everyone and thanks to Atlas Games!

I'm not trying to sway anyone (yet), but I thought I should point out something about Counter Collection 2.

Not many people know this, but Claudio draws EVERY SINGLE image in each Collection. Now, I'm not saying that he draws 150 pictures -- I'm saying that he draws every picture in every product.

That is, to save on printing, we just had Claudio draw the same pages over and over again, several thousand times. Each Counter Collection is an original work. And, he really draws them 1-inch wide - no scanning and shrinking like some companies (WotC, I'm looking at you!)

Hey! If Counters weren't where it's at, would they have been added to Dungeon/Polyhedron every issue? (And, notice how they used to be called "tokens", but now they're called "counters"? -- All thanks to Claudio's tireless efforts!)

(Reality mode) It's a thrill to be nominated. Thanks for the recognition, judges. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the ceremony.

Also, I hope that Eric had no trouble passing along the $100.00 bill that I sent for each of the judges.

Why do you think you didn't get Best Publisher? What good are dollars to me? :)

You know, I can really appreciate that...

but next time, do you think you could take his tv away?

I was wondering why I had the cast of Gilligan's Island in my collection.

You can imagine how the Ginger counter wrecks havoc in the players' ability to concentrate.

Also, there wasn't enough detail of either the dwarven or dark elven culture, so the book seemed a bit unfocused. Still, it wasn't a bad book at all.

Basically, that's how I saw both books.

Thanks for the response...I can see what you are saying; you probably would have convinced me had I been on the voting comittee :)
What I liked about 'Barok Torn' is the origins of the conflict between the dwarves and the dark elves. I guess am partial to angst ridden characters those dark elves seem to be full of it (angst that is). The dwarves did seem be fairly typical though in most respects though.

Guess we should be talking about the relative merits of the nominees instead of those that didn't make it in.
