I just jumped in on the last two pages, so I might have missed this one before if it was already suggested, but why not give each person two votes. One vote is worth 2 points, one is worth 1 point. You can always abstain and not vote.

So say products A, B, C, X, Y, and Z are up to win Best Alphabetical Game Product. I liked A best, so I give it 2 points, and I liked C next best, so I give it 1 point. If I don't like X, Y, or Z, I just don't vote for them. If I hated most of the books, but liked C a little, I can give C 1 point, and abstain on the 2-pt. vote.
What you're doing is running Borda counting with only two possible ranks. While not as egregious as Borda counting with 5 possible ranks, all of the problems inherent in Borda systems still happen. In other words, a vote for your second favourite product is likely to increase the probability of your favourite product being defeated.

Well Umbran,

You were one of the three candidates I voted for, entirely because you are one of the few people who consistently beat me in arguments on these boards. So, reason #7 to vote for Umbran: the need to keep Fusangite in his place.

I'm not sure I should reveal who else I voted for as I'm not sure if my endorsement will help or hurt them. :)

You are the good example. Crothian, unfortunately, wasn't. He may think that he wasn't a high profile member before he won, but really, he was.

The thing is, the judge elections are, in part, a popularity contest. This is not altogether a bad thing, because around here, popularity is at least partly based upon gaming tastes. But the popularity angle is there, and Crothian is and was highly popular before ever trying for the panel. This is not at all to say that he isn't a fine judge. All it says is that he's not a good poster boy for "you can beat the odds".

Discussion of that possibility is mostly moot, though. No dark horse candidates seem to be pulling ahead this year.

0) And he's grammatically unfettered!

Hey, if I wind up as the iconic representation of a PrC for Arcana Unearthed, my chances for next year would go up significantly :)

Plus, hotness most certainly does addle the brain on occasion.
