I don't think anybody answered my questions, so I'm going to go ahead and post them again. How many judges will there be (beside pre-selected ones)? When does voting end? Is Simon Collins listed here? Thanks. :)

There are five judges. I don't know what you mean by pre-selected ones; the five are the top vote-getters on this thread. There are no others. I can't answer your other questions.

I have a question: Do you get freebies of the stuff that you're voting on that you don't have? Or do you have to go out and buy or browse it at a store?

The judges can keep the material they are sent. Some of them give substantial amounts of it away (Teflon Billy ran his famous haiku contest that ended a few months ago - the winners got batches of material), but it's not necessary to do so.

that's pretty nice of em.

IS it hard being a judge(I might try to get a spot next year)? I'd think it would be pretty fun, reading through all those books, and whatnot, ya know?

It is fun. I also think that it's... what's the word?... taxing. Reading through all the adventures and trying to give them a fair shake takes a lot of mental effort and a lot of time. But the discussion is fun, and I think when we winnowed the applicants down to the final five in each category was a lot of fun.

It was interesting to see the judges different angles on a lot of things. I did "get my way" on a lot of things, but there were also nominations that, shall we say, did not reflect my criteria. But then, the other judges really got me to open my eyes on a few things I didn't like at first glance.

It can be very time consuming, especially if one has other obligations to attend to - jobs, family, etc. This is especially true near the deadline for material to get in, when large amounts of material starts coming in. Eyestrain can be a problem.

Is it fun? Sure it is. It's also important; companies are taking the ENnies seriously, which makes the judges keenly aware of their responsibility.

Regarding the review copies - many reviewers get review copies of whatever they are reviewing. Book reviewers in major magazines are a good example. The only things I can think of that reviewers don't get to keep are big ticket items like cars (like when Car and Driver evaluates cars).
