Most awards programs (perhaps all) considered WotC's Third Edition as a whole new game for the purposes of their entry qualifications. Does the same hold true for Three Point Five? Should it?
Also, what of the many updated settings and source books we will likely see over the next year, not just from WotC but from many third party publishers? Is there a certain amount of new material that should be required for entry in a category for an award?
Obviously these questions are further complicated by the whole OGL/d20 Licensing requirements and situation. Last time around the Origins Awards had to make some adjustments in regard to stand alone games that were published under the OGL since they do utilize the d20 System game engine as a basis for their mechanics. How does this factor into what can be considered a whole new product and eligibility for an award?
Lots of questions that may not have easy answers. Should their be clear guidelines set forth? If it is left to be decided during the nominations period, will an arbitrary selection/delineation process be fair, or at least perceived broadly as fair enough to maintian the integrity of the awards system?
