ENnies Nominations for 2004

I just got done looking over the list of Ennie nominations ... quite a list and a ton of good products. It's going to be tough voting.

Question to the judges/cordinator ..... Did WotC submit anything? They've produced a bunch this past year and was just wondering if they didn't submit anything or they just didn't make the cut.

WotC didn't submit last year, either. Whether or not they prefer to nurture the d20 market by not hammering it with their marketing clout isn't known by me, but I like the fact that their absence gives other top notch d20 products the chance to show off.

I saw the finalists, and rather hoped WotC either hadn't submitted anything or was ineligible. It's hard to see Eberron or the Dragonomicon not making the finals of the approriate category, if they were in the running. I can't reasonably vote this year, though; when you haven't seen any of the finalists in most categories, you shouldn't be voting, so I'm not.

Actually, thats not true. To quote my fellow judge Psion from another thread:

If we Russ does it the way it was done last year, you only rate the ones you have read or have experience with. The remainder you indicate you have not read, and you don't contribute to the average.
So, unless Russ goes with a different voting method this year, you can still vote for the books that you are familiar with. Each book gets it's own rating, which is then compared with the other books in it's category.

or was ineligible.

From now on nothing released in the time fram the ENnies cover that year will be ineligible. We have a category for everything as we want to be the RPG awards the industry trusts.

It's my opinion that you should remain small and focused UNTIL you become that, and then try to expand outward. There are still many glitches with the ENnies process that need to be ironed out before expansion takes place, otherwise they'll just fold under their own weight like many before them.

We are already there. This year we had categories for every RPG product produced in the past year. Right now the expansion will be just getting our name out and having more publishers participate.

Eberron is not Eligable for this year. It is however Eligible for next year.

As for expanding... I've noticed in the last year indie games have really started appearing a lot. From Munchkin to Carcassone and Settlers... It would be cool if we had an Indie Boardgame catagory.
