ENnies Nominations for 2004

First I find it very amusing that you use the word "we".

Ask in the D20 Publisher's Forum about Arthur's rampant use of the word "we"

The ENnies are about Role Playing and as far as I know will not ever include CCGs, boardgames, minatures, etc. We (the judges and ENnies personal) focus on the roleplaying and trust me, that's as much work as we really want.

Too true man, too true.

I think that with the ENnies ascendance to the Gen Con awards, it behooves the awards to become more "inclusive" for want of a better word.

Despite what most people at other boards seem to think, I am not left with the idea that EN World folk don't (and refuse) to play any other systems. D20 is by far the most prevalent, but others certainly make their presences felt (and with the more dynamic OGL products out there (M&M, Spycraft etc) I think the line gets blurrier all the time about what is/isn't "D20").

I agree with Wil. I'm kind of sad to see the ENnies attempt to expand too quickly and away from its d20 roots. ENWorld is not a general gaming community and unless it is headed that direction, which I'm not seeing, the ENnies should remain a d20 award.

The ENnies became the official Awards of Gen Con last year. As such we are now awards for the RPG community as a whole and not just the d20 section.

I love the ENnies btw and think the judges do a great job. I made an extra effort to be there on Friday last year to see them. So, please see this as constructive criticism.

Please, voice you opinion. We need feedback from publishers, writers, and fans. Thank you for coming last year and hopefully we will see you this year.

I would have picked checkers and chess. Maybe Go. Perhaps Monopoly. Battleship. Chutes and Ladders. Candyland.
Sorry, I thought we were talking about hobby games. :) I hear Ring around the Rosie and House are also quite popular games.

True, but I'm not a publisher so I can't really call him out over that stuff. But I did work hard and am very proud to be an ENnie Judge. It is hard work, long hours, and very rewarding. So, I'll call him out over trying to attach himself something he isn't part of. I hate to sound rude but its insulting to us.

Edit: And its not like this is the first time he's done this. :\

I ment we in a community sense. The Community chooses the judges, and gets to vote on the nominees.

The Ennies were born of this community. I was not trying to include myself in the same group as the judges. Note, I didnt even run to be one. You judges do an incredible job.

I've always seen the Ennies as an extention of this community. The majority of the times I use "we" I'm referring to the community as a whole. At least from my perspective.

My apologies for the misunderstanding Crothian.

I missed that somehow...
I am certainly guilty of tunnelvision from time-to-time.
I think the final voting process must give d20 products an inordinate advantage over non-d20 products. Further, the focus of the news and these messageboards is d20. It just seems like a jump to expect people to treat the ENnies as a general RPG award. Even in the non-d20 categories you obviously have mostly d20 folks voting on them. I guess there is nothing wrong with that in the long run, as GenCon really is the d20 convention.

The ENnies are the best awards in the industry right now, despite any micro-criticisms I might level at them.

Thanks. Unfortunately, they moved the convention square into football season. There is no way I can make it. I would love to see it in early August, but hey nobody asked us football coaches.

Fair enough. I agree the ENWorld gang is mostly open to other systems. I certainly enjoy playing other systems with ENWorld folks more than players from those "other" boards :D

d20 Modern only has one product represented this year, Blood and Fists. I'm dissapointed in not seeing more d20modern products up there thats all.

Another miss there BK. ;) Sidewinder: Recoiled is d20 Modern under the mask.

And while I'm at it, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Judges for their nod in our direction.

THANKS!!!
