really? I must have thought it was the original sidewinder. :-D

It's quite a different beast. To be blunt, I wasn't impressed with the first edition of Sidewinder. The reading was a little confusing and it seemed more cobbled together from various other systems than a whole unit.

Thats not the case in any way, shape, size or form anymore.

I saw the finalists, and rather hoped WotC either hadn't submitted anything or was ineligible.

WotC is eligible for every category that any other d20 branded or derived product is. Just FYI.

Tefon: as for City Quarters, my brain farted, I ment Modern Magic and Martial Arts Mayhem. d20 Modern only has one product represented this year, Blood and Fists. I'm dissapointed in not seeing more d20modern products up there thats all.

What are Grim Tales and Sidewinder: Recoiled? Chopped liver?

As for expanding... I've noticed in the last year indie games have really started appearing a lot. From Munchkin to Carcassone and Settlers... It would be cool if we had an Indie Boardgame catagory.

It is currently the explicit intent of the ENnies to be an RPG award. And to prevent being redundant with Origins, not to mention cover the topic in sufficient detail without toppling over from category glut, it will probably remain that way.

I think that with the ENnies ascendance to the Gen Con awards, it behooves the awards to become more "inclusive" for want of a better word.

Despite what most people at other boards seem to think, I am not left with the idea that EN World folk don't (and refuse) to play any other systems. D20 is by far the most prevalent, but others certainly make their presences felt (and with the more dynamic OGL products out there (M&M, Spycraft etc) I think the line gets blurrier all the time about what is/isn't "D20").
Great! Could someone please point me to the V:tM and GURPS sections of the EN World boards? Because I don't seem to be able to find them... :p

Just don't make the Kaptain Kantrip mistake. IOW, we have had discussions of other games here, but those that pretend they are going to save the forumites from d20 do not end nicely...

C'mon Alan, everyone knows the one true die is d6. Or was that d10? Man, I forget, getting old.... :)

Seriously though... EN World seems to be dominated primarily by D&D, d20 and non-d20 OGL games. There are other boards which cover other segments of the RPG spectrum, but EN World has never had a large community from those other systems.

As long as Ennie voting is heavily dominated by the EN World community, I don't think the scope of the awards should stry too far from the effective scope of EN World itself.

If we (and that's community-we, not me-and-the-other-guys-in-charge-we ;)) want the Ennies to cover the entire RPG market, then we *have* to do something about the over-representation of d20 and similar games among the voting audience. This could mean attracting more players from other systems to the EN World boards, attracting voters from other systems to the Ennies voting polls, or simply providing "poll booths" at other locations as well.

I haven't kept track of Ennie organizing, so I don't know if any of those steps have been taking. But from a naive EN World user perspective, it seems nonsensical to me to as the EN World community to vote on non-d20 related games...
