my only issue with 1F is that, unless one of the previous judges decides to announce he or she is not going to be a judge, the very likelihood of them being a judge the next year is heavily favored in his or her direction. I know that if certain people had not announced their decision not to be a judge, then we all wouldn't have the opportunity to even vote for who we want as a judge this year (but I may be mistaken on this).

No matter who decided to run for judge, there would have been a vote. Nobody has to be voted for. I'm honestly surprised that anyone voted for me, as I was surprised last year. It's not like I'm anyone special or "in the know" or have Illuminati ties. I put my name into contention, after carefully finding out if I was eligible, and have the good fortune to have impressed some people enough that they have voted for me.

Voted 1B, 2C, and 3E.

1B) I'd like to see some new people thrown into the mix every year, to give somebody elses perspective on the votes.

2C)A nice mix'll do fine.

3E)Play by the rules everybody else plays by(OGC) and you're eligible. If not, oh well.

The loose interpretation that has been used for the ENnies is anyone who publishes materials that are eligible for the ENnies. Obviously there are very few who actually make a full-time living in the field, but the designation has not been held so narrowly.

look at me, i'm on crack!!!

i meant professional reviewers. anyone who gets paid to review, or anyone who recieves free producat or what?

I think that the common wisdom is that professional reviewers encompasses reviewers who see actual payment for some of their reviewers (even if still not making a living) rather than simply being allowed a complimentary copy to facilitate reviewing (many fans get complimentary copies and some do write reviews).

It might be good to have categories based on what category of liscence the product was published under. That would adjust for any bias due to closer association with WotC.

I'm yet to be convinced that which license a product is released under impacts the quality of the product whatsoever. The license may alter the details of what's in the book, but it won't change the quality of production. You can be well written, artful, creative, and the like under any license.

Well, yes, but you need to have limits on what qualifies for entry - otherwise people could enter their kids' homework or their shopping list. The licenses are a pretty tidy way of discerning content (well - the d20 license is; the OGL is not, and could contain anything, inclusing the above-mentioned shopping list).

In the past we've always said these are the d20 system awards not general RPG awards. Including OGL materials opens the gates to a much wider range of products than initially contemplated when these awards were created. That's not to say that it shouldn't be done, but just that it needs to be considered.

Hmm, I didn't exactly realize this until you said it Morrus :).

But that does mean that the EQRPG is technically not eligible correct?

So, are the whiners who provoked this poll going to stand by its results or are they once again going to put forward the idea that their decision is better than democracy?

There are two kinds of people who say they believe in democracy: those who respect decisions because they were made democratically and those who decide whether a decision is democratic based on whether they agree with it. You see this all the time in politics -- whiners who think that every time the majority goes against them, somehow democracy has broken down and some kind of fraud or wrongdoing has been perpetrated on them.

That second group are the kind of "democrats" who, during the Cold War, founded countries referred to as the "People's Democratic Republic" of wherever. I'm hoping that EN World does not become the People's Democratic Republic of EN.

Fortunately, based on the responses to both of the ENnies judging threads, it seems that there's no danger of that happening. Congratulations to those who voted and those who run EN World for continuing to show their support for democracy.
