Entangle and Web - What have you done to them?

As a DM, I love Web. The players rarely use it (since it's defensive), and it shuts down all non-meatshields. It's nice having the fighters do something more than engage the bodyguards while the spellcasters battle it out.
As a player, I hate it. My barbarian got stuck in one for an entire encounter due to a string of bad dice rolls, and I didn't have a Rage left...
My solution for is is that you move by however many feet you make the save by. So it's not "5 feet or nothing". We use tick marks on the mat to measure, and round to the nearest 5' mark. My DM doesn't do that, and it's frustrating as hell to make the save by four, but not move.
