Enviromental Hazard Ideas Please

RappinTonyDanza

First Post
I'm starting a pirate themed aquatic campaign on Monday. One of the adventures I have planned for the party is a set of three mechanical rings (isles) spanning hundreds of miles around. Inhabiting these isles are golems and inevitables.

I'm looking for suggestions as to what types of environmental hazards I could include to make these isles a little more lively for the party. I'm thinking about high gravity and low atmosphere. Also I'm considering including some electric hazards running through the ground of the mechanical isles.

Any other ideas as to what sort of hazards I could include to spice things up?

Thanks in advanced.

* Whirling, grinding gears (in doorways, at bottom of pits, etc)
* Steam pipes that might burst if struck.
* Weird effect fields....
... Animation fields (random animated objects, chains, etc. Like ravid's ability)
... Energy dampening fields (which diminish/suppress energy type)
... Inertial fields (which cause slown or haste effects)
* Floors or rooms that constantly rotate/elevate/vibrate/etc
* Rusting vermin/fungus/slime. (so rust/corrosion is a like an infestation or disease)
* Odd terrain types....
... Razor-sharp growths
... Oil slicks.
... Electrical discharge panels/rods/etc
... Pressure release valves (=geysers) that randomly outgas steam, corrosives, alchemicals etc.
* Timed effects (doors, covered pits, arcanelectrical arcs, drawbridges, etc)

Thanks Orc, I'll be using many of those ideas. It should make what was looking to be a boring bunch of golem encounters into something a little more memorable.

Pits, chutes, multilevel environments, chemical barrels, environmental waste, all come to mind.

What were these rings built for? Who built them? That could help us think things up.

I don't want to give much more away than I already said. All my players know my handle and I'm worried they could be trolling. But basically long ago these rings were built for 'some' reason and constructs were put there as the protectors of the place.
