ENwords: Collage Basketball Pick'em

Guess my Kentucky vs. Stanford match-up in the final isn't going to happen at all. :o

Wow, what a game!! Those Kentucky people were not happy with many of the calls, the refs did not do a good job that game. But both teams got hosed on calls, so it sort of evened out. And dispite it killing my bracket, I'm so happy to see UAB win. Those kids played damn well Friday and damn well today. Plus UAB brought their dance team, and they were good :D

I still have three of my final four (Pitt, SU, and Duke), but if anyone outside of Alabama picked UAB to upset Kentucky, I'd be surprised. But most of the rest of my bracket is hosed, so I'm waiting until ESPN sets up their Second Chance Brackets (which start with the sweet 16) on the Tournament Challenge site...

That's the beauty of our having done these picks on ENWorld, a fantasy gaming site to begin with. Our matchups can still happen in our overactive imaginations.

The overall score of the 800,000 people who picks shows me in the 18th percentile. Hard to believe that 17% have chosen worse than me - but I did have some good ones in there (like picking Xaviar to win yesterday).

As much as I want SU to get to the final four (again) this year, I really don't see them beating UConn. Alabama they might have a chance against, though seeing how they knocked out Stanford I'll bet it'll be another close one. SU's just been playing way too sloppily, especially in the second halves. They just get too tired.

That is the funniest line I've read all day! *LMAO*

The scary thing is that I'm in the 92nd percentile and up in till the tournament started I think I watch 5 college basketball games a year. And I can honestly say that either KU or MU (University of Missouri) where playing.

All in all dumb luck and a lucky d20. ;)

Well, part of my bad fortune this year was in spending a lot less time in making my picks. I usually put in around 4 hours of research on it, first looking at the individual teams and then doing team-to-team statistical comparisons for every game. This year I only looked at the teams without taking it to the game-to-game level. (And yes, I know how Geeky that makes me sound, but statistical analysis is what I do for a living).

Usually I do better at this than my friend Biz, who actually follows college ball a lot closer than I do. Two years ago I correctly picked 7 of the final 8, and correctly called every game from that point onward. Last year I didn't do quite as well, but still did pretty good. This year, not so much. Then again, I can still pat myself on the back for the NFL playoffs, where I correctly called 10 of the 11 games before the playoffs began (only got messed up by the Indy win).

Well, I had NC St. solving that problem for the Orange (and wouldn't entirely discount Vandy's chances). I still think SU's a reasonable pick to come out of Phoenix, though. With a 100 % Okafor at UConn, the Huskies won handily; with a limping Okafor at the Dome, SU won handily. With Okafor somewhere in between the two (though it'll be the second game of the weekend, which isn't good for an injured player) at a neutral site, I'd say it's a toss-up.

A bit more then 17 hours till the sweet sixteen starts. My brackets are not so sweet, I got less then half right  I picked too many sentimental favorites and too many upsets this year...

Despite my poor showing last weekend I still have six teams going into the sweet sixteen, of which I'm looking for wins from St. Joseph, Syracuse, Xaviar and Connecticut, and then for Connecticut to also win their elite eight game, so I may still be able to rack up a few more points.
