ENWorld Gathering in Toronto

Torontonians and other locals to the area, want to gather together, hang out and put some faces to handles?

Let's get together this weekend in Toronto.

I will be travelling to Toronto this weekend to get to meet LcKedovan who is in town for a week from Germany, and figure we could turn this into a small ENWorld event!

Sign up and we'll figure out where to meet!

(Although we will have to include at least the evening at a beer garden, Wil and I have some beer debt to settle!)

Aaargh! Sounds like fun. Too bad it's such short notice -- I can't get away to make the drive to Toronto this weekend. Although folks are telling us not go anyway because of SARS...

The World Health Organization has lifted the travel ban, and the number of new cases has been dropping for a few weeks. It has pretty much run its course in Toronto.

I wouldn't go hanging out at the emergency room, but your chance of catching SARS in TO is actually pretty low right now. And there are some very attractive sales going on to try to get people out and about again.

Oh yeah, IANAPHO (I am not a public health official).

Cheers

Hey, I work in downtown Toronto and seriously, the media has blown it way out of proportion. The risk of contracting SARS is extremely low, it is contained within certain hospitals, the list of probable cases has been dropping and I am pretty sure nobody has contracted the virus in over 2-3 weeks.

If you guys like the Beer Garden, and want a larger selection of beer at a bar, check out "Smokeless Joes." It is a little place on John street (between Queen and Richmond) that serves over 300 types of beer. The menu is like a small novel ;) They also bake fresh bread and serve it to you with your beer for free so that it can clean and refresh your palette for the next sip of beer. If you like mussels....they specialize in them as well. In short, its a beer tasters place and oh so great. Blues music, dim lighting and great beer. However, if any of you are smokers, beware....its "smokeless".

Cheers,

Ack!

Aw, man! I'd love to join in, but it's Mother's Day crazy weekend!

Get together for my mother on Saturday.
Get together for my mother-in-law on Sunday.

Plus it's my brother-in-law's birthday on Sunday.

PLUS, my kids are only 3-years and 6-months, which means *I* have to do all the mother's day stuff for my wife.

.... and there will be He!! to pay if I don't take care of that!!

(ALL NEW FATHERS -- REMEMBER TO GET YOUR WIFE SOMETHING FOR MOTHER'S DAY!!!)

Keep us posted. If all goes well, maybe we can arrange something in late June or early July, or August!!!

I'd love to go and meet folks! :) But this weekend I can't... :(

Say, isn't Can-Games around the corner? (May 16th-18th, Rideau Curling Club, here in Ottawa.) Anyone going to that?

My impression is Can-Games caters mostly to a miniature gaming crowd... Since I'm new to Ottawa, I think I'll check things out on Friday, May 16th, just to see... :)

Yeah, CanGames is on Victoria Day Weekend.

But we won't be in attendence this year. There is a May Art Festival that we do that weekend as well as my girls having TWO different feis to go to (Irish Dance competitions).

I think an ENworld Toronto get together is a great idea, but with it being Mother's Day and all this weekend, I doubt I'll be able to get away. :( That said, I might be able to get away on Saturday (mmmmm... beer :p).

As for the SARS scare - it really has been blown out of porportion by the media. You have a much better chance of getting hit by a car while jaywalking, than getting SARS. ;)

Cheers,
Tim

Sounds great - particularly the "Smokeless Joe's" idea... too bad I have to do sappy Mother's Day crap all weekend. Yuck. and for my mother-in-law-to-be, too... not even my actual mother.

Have a beer for me while you're enjoying yourselves. Me, I'll be gardening or shoe-shopping or some other form of female torture.
