ENWorld Gencon Pickup Games?

If registration is any indication, I may ONLY be playing ENWorld pickup games! Tonight is my anniversary, so I won't be registering till tomorrow.

Amen to that! I've had awful luck this year getting into anything.

Looks like pickup games are the way to go!

Most people have to drive far away on Sunday, so gaming tends to be really light.

Although it's far away enough, I should see what airfare might cost me. Hmm.

With the price of gas this year, I can't imagine the savings will be worth the time and effort required to drive.

I drove to Indy two years ago from Rhode Island.... Never again.

Hmm, the server outage must have gone to a backup. My reply was lost.

Oh well. Yea, I can see that driving from Rhode Island would suck. I'm leaning heavily on flying. It will allow me to actually do something Sunday morning. I need to price a one-way ticket there from D.C., and a one-way ticket back to Richmond. Probably would be more. Not sure my wife will want to drive all the way to D.C. to pick me up on Sunday, especially since I'll want to come back late in the evening.

Really? Once they sort of got things working yesterday (it was slow but it worked), I ended up getting into almost everything I wanted. I think I had to settle for one alternate choice. I checked back today though and yeah, most of the events I signed up for were full.

Providence was about 15 hours of driving each way.

Richmond is probably close to 11 or 12 hours. Probably cost you about $150 in gas round trip (~20mpg).

If a flight is $350 (and it should be less), you're saving $200 in exchange for about 22 hours of driving.

Now, I don't know what you do for a living, but is your time, energy and comfort really worth $9 an hour?

At least, that's the way I look at it. But then I really hate driving, and I really, really hated being exhausted when I got there. And I absolutely despised the prospect of another long drive when the con was over.

Edit: I actually didn't even drive in order to save money. I drove so I could carry a load of stuff I was selling at the auction. Got more this year, but I'm calling UPS.

Can I take a look before you send it on its merry way?

Sure. Not all that exciting though: Old Star Trek rpg stuff, some old board wargames, and a couple really obscure old miniatures rules booklets.

I'm going to run a Paranoia game if people are interested, I may also try something really different and give Hollywood Camelot a go.

You got one for a paranoia game for sure. I only got to sign up for a few games so I'll be looking for lots of pick-up games. I got nothing on Sunday at all. I hope the pick-up games work out. I can't wait to finally meet some other Enworlders!!

I'll actually be setting times and sign ups for it at some point befroe the con comes. If there is enough interest I can easily run it more then once.

I may run another round-robin GM'ing game from 7 to midnight Saturday night as well.

You can probably count me in for the Saturday night Round-Robin. And it sounds likely that Cthulhu's Librarian and I will stay through most or all of Sunday.

I'm definately in the hunt for pickup games. I am not going to GenCon to game, I'm going to game with YOU PEOPLE.

I'll be coming prepared to run a D&D ORCZ! game and my d20 Modern Sky Galleons game.
