There's about 20 or so in our general gaming crew, of which I am among the oldest; as far as I know I'm the only one of us active here and I only dove in around 2005. From reading this thread, it sounds like I'm not alone in being the "representative" on ENWorld of a group of mostly-younger players.

Which means, the hobby's not in as bad a shape as the ENWorld demographic would have us believe. :)

Some time ago, I ran a poll here asking what year people started playing - I don't have the link, but it'd be a good tie-in to this poll.

Depends what you mean by gaming I suppose, fighting fantasy books, heroquest and space crusade, warhammer, Discworld MUD, D&D where does it start?

table top roleplay I'll be coming up to 10 years in October
Playing an actual role in a game on a MUD 11 years
wargaming type stuff it would be 16 years
Reading my older brothers rulebooks (call of cthulu + expansions, AD&D DM guide plus copies of white dwarf) and fighting fantasy and it would be 17-19 years

So take your pick I went for the whole table top thing myself and I'm at 9 years with that at the moment ;)

Then there are those of us like myself at about 40 who are the newbie (8 years and counting) and youngest of our group of 8. As long as I keep gaming with my group of Old Coots (poll term) this whippersnapper can keep feeling young.
