Epic Level Adventure Ideas (Share Yours)

...but no-one else die_kluge but no-one else...

Anyway the theme seems to be 'PCs play with gods'

Anyone got an Epic plot that doesn't involve divine intervention or semi-divine PCs something more like - um-um-um!

Well, aside from my first one, how about this?

THE DRAGON WAR
A group of Epic Level Characters (possibly even the PCs!) have killed Tiamat (or Bahamut [c'mon you know they aren't *really* gods... :D]). This gives the opposing draconic forces (the metallic dragons if Tiamat's dead, the chromatic dragons otherwise) an almost unassailable advantage, throwing the draconic balance of power out of whack, and starting a genocidal war across the entire multiverse.

However, when one of the Dragon "Gods" dies, the multiverse causes another to be born. The opposing dragons, of course, seek this infant dragon out, while the sympathetic dragons try to protect it. There is no guarantee that the new heir is as powerful as the old "god", however, and the imbalance may remain even after the mantle is fully assumed.

There are obviously a number of possible hooks in this situation:
a)The characters may be drafted to protect the new heir.
b)The characters may be drafted to assassinate the remaining dragon "god".
c)The characters may be drafted for various missions related to the war itself.
d)The characters may be drafted to find and assassinate the new heir.

Resurrections! Step right up! Get your free resurrections here!

An epic level cleric (or maybe a whole quabal) with the Ignore Material Component feat sets up a shrine where he/she/they give out resurrections for free to whomever visits. The masses start filing in to raise their dead. Several powerful individuals want control over this little operation. Using divinations or lore, the heroes discover that the clerics' motives are less than benign. The problem is, nobody seems to care. Just killing the clerics would anger and alienate pretty much everybody, so the heroes must find an alternate way of dealing with the clerics.

Re

A group of follower's of Malar are kidnapping folk from the Dalelands and Sembia. A very powerful priest of Malar is planning to sacrifice them all in a huge ritual that will end with the summoning of a huge wolf (epic powerful wolf monster, I can't remember its name though) that they will unleash to hunt all living things in the lands of Faerun

The PC's must either stop the sacrifice from happening or kill the wolf before it kills an unknown of number of people in Faerun.

Epic really worked well for my campaign world - it started as third ed; and i originally had these hi level guys (Called "Mighty").... the plot thread was that centuries ago, hi level evil dude tried to conquer/destroy and was eventually defeated. The Mighty then put themselves in hibernation for his return. Of course, now - you guessed it - he's back. Works for PCs for many levels - they can be running around reviving the Mighty, or they can be Mighty themselves, newly awakened and ready to fight the super evil dude again.

Love it!

Um...I don't know everyone around here, but are these ideas to be used commercially?

:)

Nope.

Well, not by Arcane Runes Press (current employees: me and the mrs.) at least.

I don't presume to speak for any of those other, more insidious groups who may, even now, be lurking in the dark corners of these boards.

I just started this thread for fun.

And, so as not to break my own thread guidelines:

THE LEGEND OF TIMMY: In order to fulfill an ancient prophecy, a young man (we'll call him Timmy), must defeat in single combat, a great, festering evil that slumbers somewhere in the deep caverns beneath a time-lost city. Unfortunately, through the inadvertant actions of the PCs, the evil is awakened a full two decades before it was supposed to and...

Timmy is currently only 11 years old.

In the short time before the great evil destroys all they hold dear, the PCs must find Timmy, protect him, guide him along the path of the hero and, ultimately, find a way to ensure that an 11 year old boy has the strength to stand alone against the darkness.

Stop the Avatar: The balance of divine power shifts suddenly allowing one of the evil gods to unleash an avatar. Stop it, or just get everybody out of the way till the good gods can do something about it.
a twist... In classic overreaction the good gods send down an avatar to reestablish the balance of power ( of course the avatars are on the opposite sides of the continent and lay waste to every not-so-innocent bystanders) so you have to stop them from finding each other and laying waste to a huge section of the area or get them together before they kill half the population looking for each other.

Tarrasque

Tarrasque!

Or for variation, Tarrasque and the pie! ;)

Or for even more variation, in an event that occurs once every thousand years, Tarrasque and several other Kaiju fight for a pie, devastating the landscape around them. The party has to stop the destruction.. knowing the death of any of the monsters would upset the power balance in the future.

I did a campaign similar to this once. IMC the PCs are escorting a young girl who is the Chosen prophet of the Goddess and along for the ride is a Friar and his ward a boy of 15 named Micha.

Anyone the group is harrassed by the agents of the Eight who the PCs beleive is after the girl. The eight being a cabal of powerful Fiendish Liches who are the Avatars of Hell. Five of the Eight however are locked in Hell, 2 are missing and the only active one is Lord Vulgus (a powerful Fiendish Lich Pirate)

In fact the Lord Vulgus wants the boy Micha who is the reincarnation of an ancient Paladin who destroyed Lord Roth (one of the 2 missing Hell Lords - a Fiendish Lich Barbarian).

It seems that the Paladin Micha destroyed Lord Roth by absorbing his soul into his own and both 'died' in the process.
If Lord Vulgus gets the boy he will restore Lord Roth to life and the pair will begin to free the other Lords of the Eight (and the PCs will have a new enemy).
On the other hand if Micha can safely reach the Temple of the Goddess he will be revealed as the reincarnated Paladin and the PCs gain a new ally.

Anyway in my case they got to the Temple

The overall Campaign to restore the 8 back to 'life' never finished but it too could be an Epic Campaign (ie stop Lord Vulgus from releasing his Hell Lord brethren from Hell)

GuardianLurker I liked this idea and would just like to add another Hook -
e) one of the PCs is the new heir and will become the Dragon God once matured...

Slight twist on the Illuminati scenario.

The PCs discover that their world is nothing more than a construct - a playground for immensely powerful beings from another dimension who possess hapless individuals and make them perform insane acts like sleeping in full armour, camping out in the wilderness to save the few GP a comfortable room in an inn would have cost them, standing their ground against unbeatable odds when anyone with half an ounce of sense would have run, spending all their hard-earned money on equipment instead of blowing it on ale and whorfs*, fighting orcs for pie, etc.

The PCs must journey to this other dimension and free their world from their clutches.

*whorf - a kind of sweet, milky pancake.
