Epic Levels and d20 Modern

shadow

First Post
I've been toying around with a pulp sci-fi/steampunk setting in my head for some time. I finally decided to go with d20 Modern Rules since they are the most cinematic. However, I realized that I'm going to need to use Epic level rules for some of the NPCs (and the PCs after a point).

For example, I have The Wanderer, a NPC who is simultaneously blessed and cursed with immortality, and is known as the best sharpshooter on the planet. Having practiced his skill for centuries, he is able to take down nearly any target at any range with a rifle, making him both awed and feared. To reflect him in d20 modern, I am going to give him levels in fast hero and the sharpshooter advanced class. However, I'm going to probably need to go into Epic levels in sharpshooter. (I'm thinking about 25th level)

Anyway, would the epic level rules from the ELH work in d20 Modern without much conversion? What about Epic Feats dealing with firearms? Also, how would I handle the epic progressions of advanced classes?

I think that the Epic Level rules adapt perfectly to d20 Modern characters. The only problem is about Epic Feats; unless the NPC uses an archaic weapon, some adaptation work will have to be made. On the other hand, you could add levels of another base class, and forget about the epic feats problem.

There are some epic level d20 Modern rules in Blood and Vigilance (which I wrote to get any bias claims out of the way) which you can find at www.rpgnow.com

As the book is a superhero add-on to d20 Modern there might be some other things of use to a high level pulp campaign as well in the way of classes, feats, and powers.

You can create epic classes pretty easily from both base classes and advanced classes, the base classes especially are easy; they'll alternate talents and feats every other level. Expand the talents from the lower level trees, and pick some epic feats to toss into the bonus feat list, and you're good to go.

Some of the stuff I did on expanding feat trees can be found here.

I use BESM and Mutants and Masterminds to transform the Characters from Heroes (Levels 1-20) to Superheroes (Levels 21+). Obviously, this means that not all of my Characters start out at 1st Level.
