Epic Stuff Wanted! Special Materials

Sledge

First Post
Okay I'm sure there are a lot of closet epic players around here, and not just the ones that post on the Immortals Handbook threads. :)
I am looking for actual epic special materials. Has anyone seen/created any? I'm tired of 42nd level characters in mithril. Any thing like epic versions of dragon armours?

It isn't exactly what you're asking about, but I've been working on some kind of magical substance that will substitute for the gp cost of epic item creation/epic spell research, and maybe another to mitigate the xp cost.

Well dragons armors are described in the dragonomicon... else
Just make something up...

"You find a lumb of (*starmetal*?), a gift from the gods for you doing a noble deed for them. The lumb is big enought to contruct 2 fullplates.. or 1 fullplate and.. blabla"

Starmetal
does not decrease movementspeed as a normal Fullplate would. +5 Dex allowed, the check penalty is 5 lower. And weight 1/10 of the normal armor.

ey? took about ... 1 min to makeup/write down.. dunno if its balanced, or anything, but it should be good enought for epic..
And according to the newly created history... you can only get it, by aiding a certain god with the power to creating it...

We have a coupole dozen new materials, but we also use superior craftsmanship rules - instead of just +1, you can go as high as +10 for a craft bonus on armor/weapons/shield, which serves to give more variety to even the basic stuff.

Some obvious ones are:

- Armor, weapons & shields that can survive stuff that PCs can survive at high level -- a bath in acid, a dip in lava, a rust monster or two.

- [Force] effects.

I think one of the problems with Goolspy's approach is that an arbitrary approach is unlikely to have enough verisimilitude. The properties of weight, hardness, dex bonus modifier, ASF modifier, cost, etc., won't hang together properly. A well-designed metal for high level armors will feel like the existing rules have been properly extended, even if those rules have never been written down. A poorly-designed metal will just seem munchkinny.

So Kerrick any chance you'll post your list?

And Jester we use a similar substance already. Ripped it of from an old Maztica adventure, "City of Gold". Available for free download IIRC.

Cheiromancer you've got it right. I'm looking for stuff that works nicely without being ridiculous. I could of course just make it all up myself, but I would rather it had already been playtested. However seeing the stuff so far is a little off of my expectations I expect I'm going to have to tweak it myself.
