[Epic] Use of Permanent Emanation feat

Hi folks!

The campaign I'm in just hit Epic levels. One of the characters is looking at the Epic feat Permanent Emanation. Can that feat be used with spells other than Detect Evil, Detect Magic, Detect Invisible, Detect Plot Device, etc?

What kind of caster is it? There are lots of good spells, but not everyone can cast them. Consecrate is good for clerics. Also, light can be good and bad, depends on style of play. And then there's the Globes of Invulnerability, very handy against triple-Intensified Magic Missles (very painful, learned from experience).

But more info needed about the caster, methinks.

The character is a Wizard...is there anything better than Globe of Invulnerability for this situation?

My favorite Permanent Emanation is the psionic power Greater Mental Rage which would be a little hard to convert to a non-psionic spell.

Form Mind's Eye

Mental Rage
Telepathy (Cha)
Level: Psion 4
Display: Au, Vi
Manifestation Time: 1 action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Area: 25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels-radius emanation centered on you
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 round per 2 levels
Saving Throw: Reflex half
Power Resistance: Yes
Power Points: 7

You enter a state of rage and focus psionic energy in the nearby area. Silver-white bolts of raw psychic energy arc forth from your body. Any living creature with an Intelligence score of at least 1 that is in the area of effect takes 5d4 points of damage (Reflex save for half damage). Targets can attempt this save each round while in the area of effect. While concentrating on this power, you suffer a -4 penalty to AC. You can attempt to control the rage by expending additional power points each round. For each additional power point you spend each round, you can exclude one target in the area of effect from the effects of this power or reduce the penalty to your AC by 1. You are not considered a target and do not need to spend a power point to exclude yourself from the damage. This additional cost does not count against the metapsionic cap for purposes of manifesting this power.

Level: Psion 8
Power Points: 15

As mental rage, but the damage done by the power is 13d4. You find it easier to control the rage. For each additional power point you spend each round you can exclude up to three targets in the area of effect from the effects of this power or reduce the penalty to your AC by 2.

The feat can be used on any spell with a range of Emanation centered on you. I am not sure what the best wizard spell to use with this feat is. If you can use 3rd party I bet you can find some realy powerful stuff. An example is Joe's Book of Enchantment (a PDF supplement) has a spell which I believe is an emanation which acts as charm on anyone entering it's range.

I'm rather partial to Antimagic Field, or Antilife Shell (for clerics/druids) myself.

It lets you set up fun things like:

Free action - lower AMF.
Cast spell.
Free action - raise AMF.

Muahaha.

Even better: take a level of archmage for mastery of shaping and then have a permanent antimagic field with a hole in the center where you're standing.

That certainly sounds logical. Do you have a source for that? It isn't in the PHB erratta at WotC's site.

You still have to raise and lower it to cast out of it, but at least all of your magic items and buffs will still work. Just don't get too close to your buddies.
