Equiping mid-level party for hell

Hey everybody. Me and my players will be going back and trying to finish one of my favorite campaigns I made that we sort of stopped playing. I want to wrap things up in a very epic way in a few games. I have some ideas that involve old gods fighting new gods, demons running amok, and a possible destruction of the world by an ancient sleeping entity that even the gods fear.

One thing I'd like to do is maybe have some older dieties send the PCs on a reprisal mission into hell. The demons have been pushing for a change to the rules about where children's souls. The crazy events that are going on might lead to them getting the change made, and the PCs might be sent into hell to force the demons to tear up the new contract.

My question is this, what sort of equipment could I have the gods loan the PCs to allow them to take on the dangers of hell and survive? I kind of think it would be cool to have a series of battles where the PCs are pitted against things way out of their league, but can win because of the artifact level gear they're carrying for this mission.

If this is a horrible idea try to tell me gently. :-) If you have any helpfull suggestions I would love to hear them. The party will probably be level 14.

Have you read Dance of Demons? by Gary Gygax
In his role of Champion of Balance, Gord journeys with his comrades to the depths of the demon-infested Abyss and the sublime majesty of the Celestial Sphere.....

This is a great ride into hell. a list of his realvent equipent,
Shadow Plate - like imporved mithril full plate, might as well throw in a +5 resistance on top of it. Possibly add SR and Fortification powers -
Artifact level sword, that forces a save or die vs demons - good for killing lesser demons, greater ones will be immune.
gem of seeing - worn as a false eye.
a magic harp that could kill demons as and area affect - (also good for killing lesser demons)
Powers of teleport, telepathy, regeneration and non-detection.

Every time I have read this book it makes me want to run a kick demon ass game. If only the second half was'nt so awful.

It sounds like a good idea to me. I would think they'd need some means of resting. If I recall correctly, Planescape: Torment had a little box that you could carry around and open up to sleep in. You might try something along those lines. I'm getting ready to send some high level characters to the first level of Baator, so I'm glad you started this thread.
