Erik Mona on the Future of Dragon Magazine

Grats again Erik.

A suggestion for Dragon magazine.
How about a "Greyhawk Regional Path" over a course of several issues. A map of a specific region, some descriptions of the regions, major locations/crypts/tombs/towns/villages etc.

Anyone else think this might be a good idea?

whether or not Erik approves Greyhawk material to be printed has a lot to do with how much creative control he has. if he has more or less total freedom, you can probably expect to see plenty of WoGgie stuff. if he doesn't, then you may see more of the WotC party line of "eh, greyhawk, whatever"

No there aren't.

So somebody write some!

Paul Lobby and I submitted a Fiend Sage article that was never published. There's Knights of the Hart Prestige classes submitted that aren't out. I'd love to see an Old Lore Bard PrC class. But since most of these are for the Living Greyhawk campaign, they have to go to R&D and the Circle of Six before Erik can publish them. So there's a lot of hoops to jump through. :)

Nothing like a little Networking. Erik, Congrats! You've done so well since the "Greyhawk Team". Glad to know that your work with Lisa Stevens took her notice!

(of course I'm sounding like a fool if Lisa is no longer the head of Paizo...!)

I'll echo the sentiments written by others. I hadn't bought Dungeon in years, and started to buy issue after issue, and finally got a subscription at GenCon. I haven't been buying Dragon lately... I'll have to go take a peak!

I think it's a great idea! Not just for Greyhawk though...

I'd like to add my voice to those expressing dissatisfaction with the miniatures and video game coverage in Dragon. Overall I like the new direction, and the novel coverage is OK by me - I discovered many of my favorite books and authors through the book review column in Dragon years ago. For my tastes, however, video games should be mostly left to video game magazines whether they're D&D related or not. "Silicon Sorcery" has been my least favorite Dragon column since it started, and I would really prefer not to see pages wasted every month on video game information or conversions of things from video games. As for the miniatures game, I realize that WOTC probably wouldn't be happy if coverage was dropped completely from Dragon - but isn't that sort of thing what Undefeated is for? Overall I like the tighter focus for Dragon and Dungeon lately, but I would prefer to see Dragon tighten up a little more and be the magazine for "People who play the D&D RPG" and not so much for "People who are fans of D&D products in general". There are better forums for the non-RPG products.

That being said...both magazines are the best they've been in years. I, for one, will keep happily buying them.

I, for one, really like the novel- and video game-based articles in Dragon. How can it not be cool to adapt something to your favorite game? Seeing chocobos in #323 was like a dream come true. I mean, chocobos! Also, it was great to see the new D&D kids line of novels get treatment, since I think all the D&D novels should get some sort of stat-based attention. That other novels do too is icing on the cake.

I want to see the miniatures articles kept (duh!), but I think they're best when they're focusing on integrating the miniatures game with D&D.

Thus, I thought the article that gave a lot of transformation spells (polymorph-variants that gave you the special abilities of the creatures) was a really good article; it was linked to the miniatures because the creatures you turned into had been made in the miniatures line.

Cheers!

Tough I'm not a big fan of spending large amounts of money on miniatures, I like the 'refocus' of Dragon. I was sad to see Polyhedron go, but I think the 'Novel Approach' column is not a bad replacement. Can't wait to see what they did with/to Dune....

Personally I prefer Dungeon to Dragon, but that's probably because I'm largely a DM and there is more content in Dungeon for me - I don't want or need new PrC, feats, etc so that stuffs wasted on me.
