Errors, Development, Editing and Complete Divine

I don't think quickened destruction is that great. (You do need to take the Quicken Spell feat first, and then the Divine Metamagic feat). But if you win initiative and have the destruction spell, isn't something dead anyway? :) So you can get TWO dead things in one round... oh well. That's good. Once per day. Hmm.

The real problem really comes when something that is marginal anyway gets hit with a Persistent Spell metafeat...

Cheers!

One has to wonder though, if Eberon was graced with the same "quality" checks as Complete Divine. I'm not about to drop $40 for a book that is going to be filled with stupid mistakes. Thanks to the wonderful efforts in Complete Divine, I may not pick up Eberron until I see the errata for it first, which might be several months away, perhaps even next year.

Is it just me, or has WotC gotten sloppier than ever? :\

CW and CD are much sloppier than normal - although I do think the rules material within is of a far higher quality than that in DotF or S&F.

I rather think that they were distracted by Eberron, though. As a flagship product, it probably gained the most attention.

Cheers!

While I like the both CW and CD, I think that WOTC really needs to invest more time, money and/or people into editing their products. After buying all the 3.0 books that had so many typos etc, I'm almost used to it, but I don't think I have ever seen a company put out so many products with so many errors, ever... It's really disappointing, and while I don't profess to be perfect, when I buy something from the RPG overlords I ecpect it to be pretty close....

Hey WotC!! Y'all need to tighten up over there in Renton! Hire me, I'll proof your stuff, it aint that hard!

I'm with Eye Tyrant. I'm enjoying CD and have found quite a few good things in it, and nothing I consider absolutely 'broken', unlike in some of the 3.0 splatbooks.

However, I was sorely disappointed with the editing standard. Even a casual reading revealed many mistakes, from the 'paladins of 3rd level or higher' turn undead cut and paste debacle, to contradictions between text and table in various places that makes me question whether anyone actually read the final proof from front to back.

I understand the pressures of modern publishing, but poor editing leads to poor reception and reviews, and hence poor sales. And isn't sales what they are about?

Still, I am impressed with this quick response to issuing errata. That is a pleasant change from previous releases (Polymorph and Wildshape anyone?), for which they should be applauded.

Editing? Pfffft!

Consider this scenario:

Create a product.

Over-hype it-- but under-budget it, and rush it out the door.

Charge, say, 50 dollars for it.

After the initial outcry, apologize publicly and profusely. Tell everyone you're staffing up, hiring editors, you're very sorry, you take quality very seriously, etc.

Edit the product and re-release it.

Offer a "buy back" program so that people who bought into the first, flawed print run can buy your book-- again-- for a discount, of course. Maybe make them rip out a page or something to prove they owned the first print run.

Watch in amazement as people actually applaud you for your professionalism, for the "positive steps" you've taken to improve your product, and be further amazed as they proceed to reward you by paying you twice for the same product.

It could happen.

n.
  1. A sudden, disastrous collapse, downfall, or defeat; a rout.
  2. A total, often ludicrous failure.
  3. The breaking up of ice in a river.
  4. A violent flood.
You keep saying that word, but I don't think it means what you think it means.

Honestly, was it that much of a crisis?
