Erudite Powers Per Day

Hey everyone,

I've read some enworld threads in the past which helped me out , so now I decided to come here for some questions.

Im running a 3.5 game where one of the players is using a Spell To Power Erudite. My question is about the unique powers per day. The way it is written is very confusing, it seems the erudite gains that many power uses for each power level he has. But that doesn't make much sense, from the rest of the text I assume that was supposed to be a restriction on the Erudite to compensate for his large number of powers known. However, by the time he gets second level powers it hardly becomes relevant.
The character in question is level 10, Im inclined to say he has 6 unique powers per day for ALL levels, not 6 for level 1, 6 for level 2 and so on. What do you guys think about this? How do you usually use the Erudite? Did wotc ever mentioned this issue?

Thanks

As it is written, you get unique powers per level per day, as you said...but that doesn't work, because unless you go crazy picking up extra powers you'll never run out. The problem in wording is probably due to the factthat the erudite first appeared in Dragon during 3.0, where psionics worked differently and unique powers per level per day actually made sense. WotC ignored the whole issue, of course.

It's generally agreed that the only balanced option is unique powers per day, but that under that interpretation a max of 11 UPPD is probably too few; in games where you really need a huge repertoire of abilities for some reason, a wizard does it better, and in games where you tend to use the same powers 90% of the time a regular psion does it better. Personally, I'd go with unique powers per day but increase the number of UPPD by 50% or so.

As of the printing of Complete Psionic, the Erudite only gets "unique powers per day", not "unique powers per level per day". This means that your 10th level Erudite can only do 6 different powers in one day. (You can get around this limitation using the Linked Power feat.)
