I suspect you'd fall down if the rope were destroyed.

Rope Trick is a targeted spell, and the target is the rope. If the target ceases to exist, the spell is gone; and "Anything inside the extradimensional space drops out when the spell ends".

I don't think so because the rope can be pulled up into the extradimensional space. This is an odd one, all right.

In this particular case it does not matter much. Either way the explosion is avoided.

Yes, but I don't think there si a universal answer for what happens.

For Light, for example, it makes sense that if the tergt is goen teh light is goen.

For Rope Trick, it makes sense (to me, at least) that the extradimensial space remains even is the rope is destroyed.

There is NO rule for this, some commen sense and DM judgement must apply in each instance.

That's certainly true of the light example you made; there's no way for the spell to continue to function in a sensible way. (Even then, a DM could say that an anchorless light spell just attaches itself to a point in space, or floats around at random, or whatever else seems like a good idea at the time. ^_^)

Now for rope trick, it's easy to imagine the dimensional space and window still existing, even after the rope is destroyed. It's also easy to imagine the spell dumping everyone out on the spot. Without rules it's of course the DM's call, although a wizard PC should know ahead of time what the result would be.
