Escaping Violent Players

I suppose I should mention as well that my players in the early 90's generally arrived armed... someone uninvited popped in and wound up facing 6 firearms and 3 short-bladed weapons from 8 players. (one of the firearms had a bayonet.)

Another was following a player, who used a warning pattern on the door-buzer to say, "I'm being followed by a suspicious person."
between the building door and the apartment (maybe 30m?) we had 8 firearms aimed at the door, the friend came in and dove prone, and the following guy, who had a knife, stepped in, and was ordered down. He complied. He left in handcuffs, sans knife.
So, yeah, we don't want that crowd imbibing... guns and booze are a poor mix. Bad neighborhood, open holster law, and people taking advantage of it.

I'm no longer in touch with any of them.
I continue to be grateful that (despite our many many problems) we don’t have the 2nd Amendment in UK.

doesn't make the UK all that much safer in terms of violent crimes.... just successful homicides.

I have no issue with legally armed people at my gaming table, provided...
  1. they aren't concealed
  2. no rounds in the chamber
  3. no booze nor drugs in the carrier.
  4. competence with the weapon by the carrier
None of my friends violated those... but I've had my home invaded by non-firearms but armed persons twice, and by intoxicated unarmed persons 3 times; Persons that I ran off using a sword for two of those, and held at bey the third until police arrived to take him into custody for home invasion, public indecency (he did so in the nude, in winter, in alaska), and public intoxication.

I used to be a competitive shooter (and not very good at it - just good enough to be the alternate... BUT after HS, I was top 5 in my BT company, and got my M16 Expert rating - just before they decided to send me home for bipolar. I qualified with hand grenade, too, but only just.) Haven't been shooting in a decade now...

Um, you know, not dying is kind of a plus.

And we make jokes about Florida Man...

Not sure we can discount successful homicides from any metrics on safety from violent crimes!
I can see absolutely no reason for being armed at a gaming table to be honest.

I, alas, don't have the skills to make cool little objets d'art. :(
Well, maybe a "dice pedestal" or a "dice plinth" . . . . I'm telling ya' there's money there! ;)

Besides, most of the "dice jails" I've seen are of less than stellar quality. Gamers will sometimes buy anything.

The issue isn't at the table, it's Getting to and from the table. Living in a neighborhood where the police are corrupt and the gangs are trying (and thanks to an armed populace, failing) to take over. In Anchorage, I had to use some form of armed defense about every other year from 1990 on. when I lived in the worst neighborhoods, I had a home invasion inside a security building every year; 2 blocks away, 3 per 2 years. Most left when they realized the home was presently occupied.

Walking a mile in semi-wilderness where bears, wolverines, and moose are endemic (that's the neighborhood I spent my high school years in. The 35+ glaciers once in view may be gone, but the wildlife isn't.)

I'm trying to recall the last FtF game I played in where firearms were not present. Probably the early 1980s.

I’m from the East End of London; not exactly a country village.

Take your point about bears, but not sure how many bears there are in Sandy Hook or Parkland Memorial or...or..or..or..
Not sure Kyle Rittenhouse was worried about bears or personal safety.

Absolutely agree that UK has massive issues too, but 2nd Amendment? No way!
