That works as long as enemies don't sunder or pick-pocket your component pouch.
Oh, and when you're grappled Eschew Materials lets you cast all those spells that have material but not somatic components. Like suggestion and, um, light I think.
Edit: And darkness, so you and the grappler can have a bit of privacy.
It is, however, a pre-requisite for Ignore Material Components at epic levels - Free Symbols! On all your Items! On ALL the party's Items! Don't go sundering anything of mine once I hit epic....
That would be a reasonable house rule for focuses, which are within the cost range and likewise kept in the caster's spell component pouch. Not for divine focuses, though I can see that as a different feat involving having a holy symbol marked or grafted somehow to the caster's body.
However, as Len said, none of this is supported by the rules.
