Essentials - Will you be getting it?

From what you know so far, are you feeling the love for Essentials?

Gotta go with the spoon.

I'm not a splatbook guy so I will probably just stick to my 4e books and my OD&D. I'm not a fan of .5 editions.

However, I'd be happy to play an Essentials-Only 4e game. I will never play another 3.x so it's 4e or 0e for my D&D...and hopefully 5e too!

Personally, I was hoping Essentials was going to be 4e-Lite and "more boardgamey" to draw in noobs. In my mind, if you can't put out your game in a 64 page manual (maybe 96 at most) in your box set, you're not gonna draw in fresh blood to the hobby.

I'm picking up the Basic set. I like the look of the new monsters but I'm not sure where they'll be published, I'd probably get them if I GM a lot of 4e next year since the original 4e MM is very shoddily done with many monsters very poorly designed.

Not playing anything at the moment :(

Although I don't particularly like 4e and wouldn't fancy running it, I'm certainly going to have a good look at essentials - I like what they are trying to do (from what I've gleaned so far) and I have to admit I do have a bit of a habit of buying rule sets that I've never run (looks over at shelf wistfully).

Cheers

I'm an O/AD&D player, and I'm going to check it out. Whether or not I adopt it as one of the games I run heavily depends on what I read in there, so I'm not exactly "powerless against it". We'll see.

The previews have won me over. I'll be getting a selection of the Essentials books (most likely the Moster Vault and the two Class/Race books).

I hope that other races come out for Essentials, but especially Psion, Sorcerer, and Warlord for use in Dark Sun.
