Gotta go with the spoon.
I'm not a splatbook guy so I will probably just stick to my 4e books and my OD&D. I'm not a fan of .5 editions.
However, I'd be happy to play an Essentials-Only 4e game. I will never play another 3.x so it's 4e or 0e for my D&D...and hopefully 5e too!
Personally, I was hoping Essentials was going to be 4e-Lite and "more boardgamey" to draw in noobs. In my mind, if you can't put out your game in a 64 page manual (maybe 96 at most) in your box set, you're not gonna draw in fresh blood to the hobby.
