Ethereal creature and invisibility purge

No, cretures in the ethereal plane are not visible because of how planes interact, not because they are invisible. It may be confusing because See invisibility specifically allows to see into the ethereal plane, but that´s just an extra property of the See invisibily spell.

OK, thanks.

We're going up against phase spiders this weekend and I'm looking for any advantage that we have. Last time the appearing/disappearing spiders gave us a lot of trouble. The wizard can use see invisible, but that's not going to help the rest of us.

7th level party, cleric, wizard, rogue, fighter,bard/swash

Make Manifest (Clr 4, SC): Ready an action for as soon as you see one. It's Will save sucks, so it's easy prey for this transmutation spell.

Obscuring Mist (Clr 1, PH): It can see into the Prime Material Plane...but not if vision there is obscured. The only way for them to see you is to be in an adjacent square - so ready an attack for when they appear. A simple but effective tactic.

I considered that, but from what we've been told there are quite a few and I don't have that many 4th level spells

I didn't however think of that. That should make them fight on our terms. Woot

Thanks

Absolutely.

If the Wiz has See Invisible up, you could also just use him as a spotter, while the rest of you Ready Actions. Since speaking is a Free Action that can happen during other actions, the Wizard could shout:

"Behind Zervius!"

...and thus no one is surprised when a Phase Spider appears behind Zervius. Everyone's readied actions go off, and the spider is dead before it can attack.

Be sure the DM understands that last bit. Word your readied actions so that there's no mistaking your intentions.

Hmm. Would most of you say that a transdimensional glitterdust should work, or is that ascribing a property to glitterdust that it does not have?

Transdimemsional glitterdust would work, but it would illuminate them on the Ethereal plane, so that only helps people who can already see ethereal.
