It should be interesting to see how American movie audiances react to 14-year-old kids in skin tight outfits, random nonsensical quasi-religious imagery, and a main character who flogs the dolphin next to the hospital bed of his comatose girlfriend. :D

Well, they put up with all the nonsensical philisophical hoo-hah in the Matrix movies, so I don't see it as a problem. The names, though. "Kate Rose"? *blech*

Well from other forums i have been to. Some people think it will be OK. Others plan to go see it, and shout "Blasphemy", every time there is even the littlest thing different from the series.

Oh, and DarkJezter, i would hardly call Asuka Shinji's girlfriend. But, that is a discusssion for another time.

EDIT: Although the Evas do look cool. I do think the movie might turn out alright. WETA is the one doing the FX afterall.

TempSn: Sorry. Shinji flogs the dolphin next to the bed of his not-girlfriend. ;)

Even though I hate the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime and consider it little more than a poorly-animated, pretentious mindscrew, I'll probably crack and go see the movie simply because Weta is doing the special effects. I have no doubts that they'll make the movie look spectacular.

Why do you dislike it?

Well, since you asked...

I was going to write a big, long post about why I dislike Evangelion so much, but instead I remembered this review which mirrors my own feelings pretty closely (warning, that link contains language that would make Eric's gradma blush). This scathing review of Eva does get a couple of things wrong about the show, but for the most part it describes my own feelings about that anime series perfectly.

It was especially correct regarding my feelings on Shinji. Whom I never saw as sympathetic, just a whiny, angsty, selfish loser.

I am not going to read that whole review. But i sympathize with Shinji. I do not know why, but i just cant help but feel sorry for him. Hvae you ever been in the situation he is in. I know you have not. You can not know what it is like. And, with all due respect. Maybe it is because in real life, i have often been called selfish or various other things. But someone like Shinji should be cared for. But he is not, which is why i fell sympathy for him.

No hard feelings okay, I like Shinji. You do not have to, but i recommend we get back to talking asbout the movie. I hear it not not supposed to come out till 2010.

No, I have never been called to MegaTokyo (or whatever it's called) to pilot a giant robot. Sorry.
I didn't like the series because its story didn't make any sense to me. I tried to get more information, and people told me it wasn't supposed to make sense because the creator was drug-addled. And THAT made sense.

I didn't like Eva either...just, didn't work for me. Which is very strange, since I'm a huge Mecha fan in general, but Eva was just a lot pain. It almost seemed like they were trying TOO hard to be different from Mobile Suit Gundam, but at the same time, hit on the same success it had years ago.
