That's unclear.

It only really states, that grapple attempts are made by the time the spell is cast, and whenever someone enters the area.

It doesn't say, that the tentacles attempt to grapple anyone currently not grappled each round. It only says, that they continue to crush any grappled victims.

I would have to agree. If a creature is within the area when the spell is cast or enters the area while the spell is in effect must make a grapple check. It says nothing about making the grapple check each round. If they win the grapple then the spell has failed to grapple them and they move at half speed in the area.

I would go with the Blade Barrier rules: if you end your round still in the area of effect then you get to deal with the tentacles again.

That's Blade Barrier rules?

When I read Blade Barrier, I see two ways you can take damage:
1/ being where the barrier is when it is evoked, and
2/ passing through the barrier.

If you simply remain in the area of the barrier for several rounds after it's evoked, you're not either of those...

It looks as though I've misread yet another spell, or I've house-ruled it so it meshes with how it works in my mind.

They describe it as both a curtain and a wall. I've been playing with it as a wall that fills the whole area while a curtain would be more of an edge of the square it's in.
