Evasive Reflexes

"Benefit: When an opponent gives you a chance to make an attack of opportunity, you can instead immediately take a 5-foot step."

Okay so it seems that as long as you can make make an AoO you can instead take a 5 foot step. Meaning that you don't use up an AoO doing so. If you're out of AoO's can you still do this?

Seems like an abuse but it says "when an opponent gives you a chance" but if I wanted to I could attack an ally that I threaten who provokes an AoO. So is the Opponent wording really strict on this or if an Ally were to provoke could I make a 5ft step on that occasion too?

I plan on using Swordsage stance called "Shifting Defense" so could I use Evasive Reflexes with it for free 5 foot steps?

The way I see ity is that : you NEVER TOOK you AOO, instead you moved 5ft. So your limit was never used up for the round. i say that if you took an AOO in that round then if another opponent proivokes an AOO YOU COULD NOT take a 5ft step, since you already used your AOO for that turn and so you were never given a chance (since to get a chance implies tou can actually perform the deed). So I say that if you have already taken an AOO (an actual attack not simply a 5ft step) in the round you cant take a 5ft step again. But if you havent taken an AOO (an actual attack) you can 5ft step as many times as opponents provoke AOO's (as long as you never attack, only move). at least this makes sense and is how I would run it...

The feat should still be expending your attack of opportunity uses for the round. You're just using it for something else other than an attack.

As for "opponent"... it's sorta like the healing maneuvers and stance from Devoted Spirit, I guess. You can abusethose too, it's up to the DM and the group not to. At the very least, you'd be spending AoOs for those free 5 ft steps, but it's still pretty cheesy.
